Thank you for keeping a wonderful and beautiful tradition alive. I am a avid Pern reader (and of most other McCaffrey works). To see people, animals, and locations depicted in such a vivid, unique is awesome. I will be back to visit.

Thank you! I however am not the only site with Pern art. The sites below will take you to two of Pern's most famous artists. Please, please! Do not copy their art without permission. It's only polite, and mindful of their copyrights to their hard work.
  • Robin Wood: Aside from being just one of my favorite fantasy artists, Robin Wood created all the stunning portraits of Anne McCaffrey's characters in 'The People Of Pern'. The book also carries little tidbits of info not revealed in the novels.
  • Michael Whelan: Every time I see this guy's work, I feel like packing up my crayons and going home (but I get over it!). Some of the most stunning sci-fi and fantasy art out there is the work of this man. He is the artist responsible for the glorious covers of the American releases of most of the Pern novels.

I am a huge Pern fan! This site is beautiful! I am just beginning to explore it, but I am sure I will be back! It has been wonderful to actually "see" Pern and its people and dragons, instead of just imagine them. All my friends think I'm nuts - it's ice to find people like me!!

Fear not, gentle viewer! There are many other Pern-a-holics online! Cruise along the Pern Web Ring located on my WebRings, Banners and Awards page and see many others afflicted with a love of Pern.

For those of you wishing to join a whole club of like minded nuts, visit Pernese Online for a listing of who's who in Pern fandom as well as a very nice list of authorized clubs.

Hmmm...my son is in to stained glass. And my sister works for a company that makes stained glass. If you don't mind, I think I'll hijack a couple of these and put the kid to work! I'm so glad to have found this site!

I've gotten this question a heck of a lot more than I imagined I had (Once was a surprise, okay?). As fond as I am of stained glass, I've never actually attempted it! Therefore, the art here may actually lend itself to stained glass - or it might not. One hobbyist informed me that minor alterations had to be made, but it was fine. If you'd like to nip the design for the windows to use for a project in stained glass, please do - in fact, send me a message/picture and I'll put it up on the site!

Do NOT however, reproduce them with the intent of selling them at craft shows or what have you. Personal use is quite acceptable.

Do a portriat of F'lar and Lessa please!!!!

Whoopsie[buzzer going off in the background]! That's something I don't touch. I don't do pictures of any character in the books, have they wings, arms, hair or what-have-you. Besides, after Robin Wood and Michael Whelan captured them so beautifully, why look for my renditions?

Hi! I can't remember whether I've signed this before. I borrowed some of your lovely graphics a while back, and now I'm using them on a Spirit page for a new website competition. When the page is ready, you can see them at http://www.geocities.com/Area 1/Dimension/9154/dragons.html . Thank you so much! Asst. Chief Spirit "Starblaze," The Rumbles http://www.therumbles.net

I'm not a bear - I usually have a good reason if I deny permission to use the artwork on The Window. I do however much prefer being asked than having to hunt down sticky-fingered, graphic-grubbin', right-clickin', no-permission-askin', art-nappers.

Even then, the art we're talking about is the contents of the gallery. I generally draw the line at the use of the navigation buttons, background, header graphics and other faux stained-glass art on sites other than THIS one. If I have not given my express permission to use the graphics of the web-site itself, and I find it out there, I will make my displeasure abundantly clear.

I found your page through The World of Pern link & was very impressed- I love the stained glass idea! I'm amazed this is only a hobby for you- I work as an artist for a living and would have no idea how to go about this- the site is great! Keep up the good work- I'll check in again. Bye!

Yes, this is indeed a hobby. I'm getting better as the years pass, but unless Disney comes by and taps me on the shoulder, I'll remain a techie by day.

If ever I do decide to sell some of my newer (better!) artwork, it will not be Pern specific, and most likely, there will be no notice of it on this site. There was an unfortunate incident between Ms. McCaffrey's lawyers and another Pern fan-artist regarding a link on her site for commissions. As far as I've heard and seen, the artist is a immensely talented lady with beautiful work and is an all around lovely person. The clash was not maliciously based, but was very regrettable, and one I hope to avoid.

My compliments to the artists. I hope you don't mind, I saved some pictures for my wallpaper. I also put your sight in my favorites file. Thanks for the uplifting pics. Susan

The artist (singular) is glad you enjoyed it! Use of the images as wallpaper is perfectly acceptable (I confess to using the queen dragon of "Defying The Dawn" as my wallpaper on occasion!). As long as they don't wind up in "free" collections of web clip-art sites, I certainly don't mind you using the images on your own machine.

This has been a lovely experience! Congradulations on your marriage. I am curious about your work. How long have you been creating Pern images? Secondly, have you been studying Celtic designs to incorporate in your art work. By the way, the solitary usician and dragon was very moving.

Celtic art is a far distant portion of my Heinz 57 background. I enjoy looking at it - I even manage some sloppy knots on occasion. The knot-line graphic that appears on many of the pages is not my own work, but altered from a site of free-images. Wishing to replace it with a traceable knot, I'm working on some lines from known knot weavers on the web who graciously permitted me the use of their talents.
Pern artwork I've played with off and on since 1985 when I first encountered the strange creation known as a fanzine.
The musician in the wheelchair beside his dragon is a concept of (insert author's name once I go home and look it up!) based on a fan-weyr character of (place owner's name here). The Weyr is Logres, and is one of the single greatest concentrations of great fan art and writing. Me... I'm just the illustrator.

I found your site a few months ago, but finally took the time to paw through it today. Boy, do I wish I'd done so sooner! Your artwork is both beautiful and creative; I love that you filled the background in for a complete scene, instead of just focussi g on the central character or dragon. Wish I had a good reason for you to design something for me!

Even so, I'm swamped with obligations. At this time, I am accepting no more portrait requests until I get my digital house in order

For those of you who haven't, Sariel's site is a extremely informative storehouse of information off the beaten path of your standard Pern fare. Where else could I find a detailed description of the form and design of flying straps?

I've only read one Pern novel because i don't want to start unless i can red the first one. But i thought it was great. I love the artwork. I'm not clear, did you create the graphics or did get them somewhere else. Either way i love them and i'm thinki g about using that kind of thing on my page if i ever learn how and get it made. Did i mention i realy love the page? I do!!!

With the exception of some Celtic knotwork lines and the web-awards and other banners, the artwork you see here (good and bad) is all my fault.

Stunning and original! And I learned something educational too; I never knew that Frank Lloyd Wright did stained glass...

Aside from my love of stained glass, I spent time in highschool (cough) years ago doing architectural drawings and earning a deep seated admiration for Frank Lloyd Wright's genuis. Visit here for a nice set of links related to his lifetime of accomplishments.

Love the windows, dear. How many marks to do one for my weyr? A beautiful green dragon perhaps, or a handsome bluerider who leaves _nothing_ to the imagination... *Grins* The Weyr Flirt, and Terror of the Lower Left Hind!

And he is a talented fan-writer as well!
