![]() Daath - Sometimes called the 11th or false Sephira. Daath lies in the center of the Abyss of the Sephiroth. It is the interface between the sphere of Binah (Wisdom) and Chokmah (Understanding). Also referred to as the sphere of Knowledge.
Deity - A supreme or divine being; a god or goddess.
Deosil - Clockwise or sunwise direction of movement. Associated with gathering/drawing and positive energy. It is the direction in which circles are typically cast.
Divination - The science, art, and practice of obtaining information by use of such tools as the Tarot, Crystal Ball, I Ching, Tea Leaves, Rune stones, etc.
Dogmatic Qabalah - The published doctrines and treatises of the Qabalah.
Dragon's Blood - Resin from the Daemonorops draco, a type of palm tree. Typically used as an incense or in powdered form.
Drawing Down the Moon - A Wiccan ritual in which the Goddess aspect is invoked into the High Priestess by the High Priest.
Drawing Down the Sun - A Wiccan ritual in which the God aspect is invoked into the High Priest by the High Priestess.
Earth - The Element typically associated with the North. Also associated with fertility, strength, stability, and the physical.
Ecstasy - A state outside or beyond reason and rationality. The trance state central to many forms of Shamanism.
Egregor - A thought form created by Will and visualization.
Elemental - A non-physical entity composed entirely of one of the Magickal Elements.
Elemental, Artificial - A non-physical entity similar to an Elemental, but created by a Magician for a specific purpose.
Elemental Planes - The first planes above the "Lower Astral." The realms of Elemental spirits.
Elements - There are four or five Magickal Elements, depending upon the system one is working from; Air, Earth, Fire, Water, and Spirit. Spirit is sometimes referred to as Akasha.
Enchantment - see Spell.
Enochian - A language, alphabet, and Magickal system channeled and recorded by Dr. John Dee and his assistant Edward Kelly. It was attributed to Enoch by them, and is sometimes called "Angelic."
Esbat - A coven meeting other than one of the eight Sabbats. Typically held on or near the full moon.
Ether - An archaic Western term usually used to refer to Spirit or Akasha.
Etheric Body - The intermediate body between the Astral and the physical. The most easily "seen" non-physical body, extending approximately 1/2" to 1" out from the physical body.
Ethereal Plane - The energy level intermediate between the physical and the Astral. Some consider this to be a part of the Lower Astral.
Ethereal Projection - Sometimes called Remote Viewing. An out-of-body experience similar to Astral Projection, except that one is traveling through and perceives the physical world rather than the Astral Planes.
Evil Eye - The legendary ability to cause harm or misfortune by means of a venomous glance or glare.
Evocation - A ritual intended to bring a "lesser spirit" into your field of awareness, typically on either the Astral or Physical Plane. An evocation is more a command than a request, and brings the summoned entity to a location separate from the evoker's body.
Exorcism - A ritual to expel an unwelcome entity from a person or place which it is influencing or possessing.
Familiar - An animal companion which aids in Magickal work.
Fetch - Can be either "the apparition, double, or wraith of a living person" (Oxford English Dictionary), or a projected Astral Body or thought-form deliberately sent out to make its presence known to a particular person.
Fetish - An object empowered to aid or protect its owner.
Fire - The Element typically associated with the South. Also associated with energy, passion, Will, determination, and ambition.
Flagellation - see Scourge.
Flying Ointment - A lotion or creme used to facilitate an altered state. These mixtures typically contain potent psychotropic, toxic substances such as belladonna, henbane, and mandrake.
Futhark - The runic alphabets, so called after the first six letters.
Futhork - An Anglo-Saxon runic system which builds upon the Elder Futhark in order to represent sounds in Old English which were not present in Old Norse.
