Stephen News Archive (January 2001-April 2001)

Looking for some old Stephen Gately news, but can't seem to find it? Well, look no further! I will be transferring some of the Stephen news on my News page to here every 3 months or so. That way you can be sure to find whatever news you are looking for! Just have a look at the links below. Think you've found the news story you want? Then click on it and- voila!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

30/4/01~ I hope you've all been out and bought your copies of Stay today!!! It seems that the shops don't have much faith in the single, with Woolworths charting it at number 17, and WHSmiths placing it at number 20 :-( However, amazon have CD2 of the single placed at number 5 and CD1 of the single at number 16. Combined together, it gives Stephen a top 5 hit. However, these are all just predictions and so we won't know how Stephen fairs in the charts until Sunday. Although I will keep you posted throughout the week. The midweek charts are usually announced on Wednesday.

In the meantime, Stephen reveals in the current CD:UK magazine exactly what kind of diet he is on. He was apparently seen eyeing up some bacon sarnies in the CD:UK canteen, but had to go away without due to his diet. He says that he is only allowed 2 milkshakes during the day, but can have whatever he likes for tea. Sounds to me like he is on the well-know SLIMFAST diet. . .

Also in CD:UK magazine, Stephen gives out some *ahem* very good advice. You should never have milk in your tea before you go on stage cos it makes your throat go all phlegmy!! Lovely. . .

Steo's advice!

And, sorry, this has absolutely nothing to do with anything whatsoever, but I need to vent my anger somehow!! You see, I was meant to be going to see Stephen at Gloria Hunniford's Open House tomorrow but, due to a protest that's going on near the studios, they are not having a live studio audience because of fears over safety and so, therefore, I won't be going. I am just sooooooo disappointed as you can imagine!! Bloody protesters. . .

29/4/01~ As you all will know, Stephen is currently hard at work writing songs for his second solo album, in between all the hectic promotion he's been doing. It seems that we can expect a majority of "Stay" style songs on the album as he will be working with Swedish producers "Cheiron Company", who work with Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. Stay is obviously a style of music he is most comfortable with and so it looks like we may be seeing a lot more of those slick dance moves in the future!!

AND DON'T FORGET THAT STAY IS RELEASED TOMORROW!!!! STEPHEN REALLY DESERVES A NUMBER 1 WITH THIS AND SO, I'M SURE WITH FAN POWER, WE CAN HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN!! (If not a number 1, top 5 would be fantastic!!)

27/4/01~ In an interview with the next issue of Smash Hits, which is out on Wednesday, Stephen reveals how he's unhappy that the Boyzone tour may not now happen. He says, "I'm annoyed 'cos it would have been good to do a farewell tour for the fans. I think it's a real shame." He also reveals how he is now completely tee-total. He used to drink a lot with the rest of Boyzone, but has now given up alcohol completely and says he feels much better for it. He said, "I've been on a diet and I've given up alcohol. I'm trying to look after myself. I used to drink a lot with the guys but it's been nearly five months and I feel a lot better." You'll be able to read the full interview on this site next week.

Stephen talked about a mysterious birthday gift he received from Eloy when he made an appearance on GMTV's Entertainment Today programme this morning. The interview took place in Soho, where both Stephen and the presenter Jenni Falconer took the opportunity to have a massage whilst talking- both were fully-clothed though!! When asked what he received for his 25th last month, he talked about how he went on a horse and carriage ride round the place where he lives in Holland- and then he went on to discuss the, ahem, rather *intriguing* present he received from Eloy! He revealed that it is a gold box with an inscription on it, and inside there is an envelope, but Eloy won't allow him to open the envelope yet so he doesn't know what's in it!! He said that the envelope has a wax seal, which he's tried to steam open but it won't work!! He's not allowed to open it until October, which just so happens to be the month of Steo and Eloy's 3rd anniversary. Hmmm, could that have anything to do with it I wonder? You can watch the interview now on the Stay Promo page.

Stephen has also told Channel 4 text that, seeing as he is good friends with Jennifer Saunders, he will be appearing in the new series of her sitcom Absolutely Fabulous later this year! Read the full interview on the TV Interviews page.

In another interview, this time with Invicta Fm, Stephen said that if he could re-live one day it would be when he and Eloy went on holiday to Mauritius in November last year. He revealed that they took some wine and champagne out and spent the day on a catermaran. He said that they even went diving off the boat and it was just the 2 of them there. You can read a rough transcript of this interview on the radio interviews page

In yet another interview, this time with NME, Stephen has revealed exactly what happened to that duet he was supposed to do with Baby Spice Emma Bunton- it is now the b-side to Stay!! Called I Can Dream, Stephen said that it was a rough demo for their duet but, as she was working on her solo album (which is great, btw!) She didn't have time to do it. You can read this interview on the Internet Interviews page.

The good news is that STAY is starting to get some radio play at last. I have heard it played a few times on my local radio and I have heard it a few times on radio 2 as well!! All we need now is to get radio 1 to start playing it. . .

In the meantime, don't forget (as if!) that Stay is released on Monday. It seems that Hear'say are really behind him on this one too. "They" sent a rather sweet message to their official mailing list:

Dear Friend,

Just a quick note to remind you about a very special record out on Monday 30th April. STEPHEN GATELY's new single STAY will be released on 2 CDs and cassette. The limited edition CD2 features US, Hear'Say, interviewing Stephen with twenty of the best questions sent in by his fans.

Stephen has been a very good friend to Hear'Say. Before we had released our debut single "Pure and Simple", at a time when we were very nervous about embarking on our Popstars adventure, Stephen interviewed us for a very special Popstars Magazine by the makers of Smash Hits. Stephen offered us a great deal of help and useful advice on how to deal with Popstardom. We were honoured and jumped at the chance to return the favour when Stephen asked us to interview him for his new single 'STAY'.

PLEASE REMEMBER that CD2 is STRICTLY LIMITED for 1 WEEK ONLY.

Cheers for your support. Best wishes, Hear'Say

Speaking of Hear'say, Suzanne Shaw from the group said yesterday that the first piece of advice she was given was "be nice to everyone on the way up because you meet them on the way down". . . advice given to her by none other than our Stephen of course!!

In the meantime, as you all know, Party in the Park tickets went on sale today but they sold out in less than 6 hours, despite the line-up not being announced yet! Stephen will almost certainly be at the event so if, like me, you're going, make sure you scream loudly for him!!

Finally, if you want to win yourself 3 bags filled with the Stay single, a poster, a signed photo and loads of other stuff, get on over to Trouble now and answer the very simple question of "What are the names of Stephen's 2 dogs?"

26/4/01~ CAPITAL FM are running a competition for you to win the chance of interviewing Stephen for them. You can go to Capital HQ, quiz "the new prince of pop" (as they call him) and have your interview placed online at the Capital fm website! 3 runners-up will received a Stephen goody bag with signed Stephen stuff, a Stephen washbag and Stay pyjama's. All you need to do is answer the question "Stephen got his first break with a small part in what film?" and then head over to http://www.capitalfm.com/competitions and enter! Good luck!

25/4/01~ Full details of how to get tickets for this year's PARTY IN THE PARK have been released. As you know, Stephen may be there but the full list of acts there won't be announced until a couple of weeks before the show kicks off on July 8th in London's Hyde Park. Tickets go on sale from 8AM this coming FRIDAY the 27TH APRIL 2001. You can book by either phoning the ticket hotline on 0870 7300 958; booking online at http://www.capitalfm.com; or in person at the Odeon, Leicester Square, London (cash and cheques only). Tickets cost 25 each (plus booking fee for all phone and online bookings of 2.50 and a special delivery charge of 3.75). Tickets are limited to 4 per person. As usual, there'll be a live web cast on capitalfm.com, and there will be highlights throughout the day on Capital Radio. The event is also being hosted by Ant and Dec for ITV.

Don't forget the repeat of The Priory on Saturday, for those of you that missed it. It's well worth it just to see Stephen get angry at someone in the audience! When he is asked by the presenter Zoe Ball, "how's your boyfriend?" He answers "he's fine thanks" and then someone starts laughing really loudly in the audience. Stephen then turns round and threatens them by saying "If you don't stop laughing I'm going to punch you in the face"!! GO STEPHEN!!! He also stuck up for Noel from Hear'say when he was asked about the recent rumours surrounding Noel's own sexuality. He said that he thinks everyone should just leave him alone as it's his own business. Hear, hear! He also said that if there had been no pressure from the press to come out, then he wouldn't have done it as he believes it's his own business and no one else's.

Also don't forget that STAY is released on MONDAY!! Stephen really deserves a number 1 with this, so make sure you all go and buy a copy. It'll be a tough week for Steve as he is up against J-Lo and Geri Halliwell. S Club 7 are set to storm the charts this weekend with their latest single Don't Stop Movin'. It is currently at number 1 in the midweek chart and so it looks likely that they are who Stephen will have to beat. CD2, with the Hear'say CD Rom interview with Stephen, is limited edition and available for ONE WEEK ONLY. So, if you want to find out whether your question has been asked, make sure you buy it next week! Apparently, Stephen had a right laugh with Hear'say doing it!

However, Stephen is unfortunately getting a severe lack of radio play, so make sure you e-mail your local radio stations and national stations to request it! You can find lots of e-mail addresses on the Request Steve page. But please make sure that you only do this if you are from the UK (as radio stations can often tell when you're from a different country and would never have heard the station before). And make sure you e-mail YOUR local radio station and not another one as they can also tell if you're local or not. The best bet would probably be to e-mail radio 1 and radio 2.

24/4/01~ In an interview with ONLINE POP, Stephen told all about his new single and his plans. He said that he's been very busy with promotion (I think we all knew that already!), and thought that his trip to the Far East last year was amazing! He still wants a Boyzone reunion but, yep you guessed it, it all depends on Ronan's schedule. He currently lives in a rented flat in London, whilst doing his promo. He misses Woody, Joey and Casper and so he has a "cyber-dog" to keep him company! I guess he must have got what he wished for at Christmas then. . . He also revealed that he doesn't get back to Ireland as much as he would like, and only gets back there when he's visiting family and friends. He mainly divided his time between London and Amsterdam. Online Pop are offering the chance for Stephen fans to win a goody bag. They have set up a special Stephen Gately microsite and so head over to http://www.onlinepop.co.uk/stephengately now if you want to be in with the chance of winning!

Tickets for this years Party in the Park go on sale this FRIDAY the 27th of April at 7am. There are no more details as yet, but more info will be released towards the end of the week. As you well know, Stephen is rumoured to be making an appearance and so it's well worth getting those tickets!

Stephen was on The Priory today on channel 4- as I found out about it at the last minute, it wasn't up on the site. However, see the schedule for details on when the Priory is repeated. He revealed that Ronan left him a message on his phone this morning and so there is hope yet! Watch out for the interview on the site on Saturday (as, erm, I managed to miss the beginning! Thank God for repeats!)

Stephen is currently working on a new album which he hopes to have ready by the end of this year/early next.

22/4/01~ Stephen recorded his appearance on Pop quiz A Question of Pop yesterday. . . although things certainly didn't run smoothly!! Yes, Mr Stephen Gately *somehow* managed to lose the game for his whole team right at the last moment. Momentarily buzzing in to answer a question, his mind went blank and all he could say was "oh. . . sorry"! His momentary lapse in concentration cost the team the game by ONE POINT. Oh, well, at least he can console himself in the fact that his team won when he appeared on the show last year! (Thanks to LUCY and LAUREN for this info!)

21/4/01~ Stephen has just finished a song for a new English/Dutch movie called Superstition, which stars Titanic and Quills actress Kate Winslet. There are no details as yet to when the movie will be released but I'm presuming it will be either later this year, or early next year.

If you want to win tickets to see Stephen at The Pop Factory next week, then you need to send the answer to the question "When is Stephen's birthday?" and send your answer to [email protected]. You will need to make your own way to and from Wales though. Winners will be notified on Tuesday am.

20/4/01~ Stephen is filming an interview for a BBC Wales TV show called The Pop Factory (see schedule as well), which will be screened next month. It is being filmed on April 25th 2001 at the Welsh Hills Works in Porth, Rhonda Valleys, Wales and doors open at 6.45pm. You can get tickets by visiting the website at www.thepopfactory.com .

19/4/01~ Stephen was at a recording of The Pepsi Chart on Tuesday night, singing Stay ready for it to be screened next week (see schedule). Ronan was also there and sang Lovin' Each Day, which was screened tonight. However, according to my well-informed source (hi Liberty!), they didn't appear to meet each other at all, either before, during or after their performances! I guess they can't be too desperate to see each other after all. . .

18/4/01~ Stephen appeared on BBC1's CBBC show this afternoon to answer questions sent in by the fans. He talked about how difficult the routine for Stay is, that he'd been good and only eaten 1 (very big) Easter egg, that he'd vote Ronan out of the Big Brother house first because he won't do the tour, and how he named Casper the cat after Casper the friendly ghost because he is white and has long hair and big blue eyes. On this site now, you can see video captures from the show and the actual interviews.

16/4/01~ Stephen appeared on GMTV's Cotton On this morning, looking really well and healthy! Amongst other things, he talked about the best piece of advice he's ever been given and what his first taste of fame was. He also tried to say that, if he was on a desert island, his HOUSE would be one of 3 things he'd take with him, including all the contents! He wasn't allowed to say this though (the presenter, Fearne, said that it was cheating!) and had to settle with Eloy, his dogs and his kitten as the 3 (Stephen, surely that's FOUR things?) things he'd take with him. He said that Casper is a Persian kitten and it's just mad at home because the pets just run around all day! He also performed Stay and, at the end of his interview, even winked at Fearne! Bet Eloy's not impressed with that! Check out Stephen's interview and performance now by going to the Stay Promo page and whilst you're here, why not check out some GORGEOUS video captures from the show?

15/4/01~ Stephen said in an interview with TOTP Plus today that the story about him wanting to duet with Eminem is not true. In fact, Stephen never even said it! He also revealed that he?ll be doing his autobiography early next year (which will, he says, ?shock a lot of people?) and he also plans to tour throughout the UK early next year. He also said that he was very sad to hear about Mikey's single sales last week and wasn't in the UK to buy one, but would have done if he was over here! Check out the Stay Promo page for the interviews from the show!

And this isn't news, but I just want to thank all the people who?ve sent me birthday cards and presents for my 19th birthday today. Maybe my gift-wrapped Stephen got lost in the post. . .

14/4/01~ A version of Stephen's New Beginning has been chosen as the Liberal Democrats election song! So, you can expect to hear it when Charles Kennedy, leader of the UK party, sets off on his election campaign. So, maybe we should be voting for the Lib Dems by the time the general election comes round in the summer. . .

Stephen has now recorded his interview with Hear'say, which will be part of a CD-Rom on CD2 of STAY. So, make sure you go out and buy the CD if you want to know whether your question was picked to be read out by Hear'say!

13/4/01~ To celebrate the release of STAY in 3 weeks, TOTP Online have gone Stephen crazy!!! To find out more, head over to the Request Steve page now!

Stephen's Official Website has now been updated with some exclusive downloads, a picture of the Stay CD sleeve, and loads of prizes to win by earning points! Prizes include meet Stephen in person, a personalised gold disc, Stay pyjamas, Stay overnight kit, New Beginning alarm clock, New Beginning album, Stay CD single, signed photo, Stay stationary and a poster!

11/4/01~ It's not so much The Real Slim Shady as The Real Slim Gately at the moment! In an interview with NME.COM on Monday, Stephen revealed that he'd "love to do something with Eminem or Marilyn Manson", saying that it doesn't matter if Eminem is homophobic. These comments from Stephen follow on from recent revelations that he'd love to duet with Geri Halliwell on It's Raining Men. About Eminem, Stephen says, "I don't know if he is homophobic or not. If he is, that's just his mentality and I don't hold a grudge against that. A lot of people would disagree. I think he's hyped up a lot and he's probably very quiet. A bit like Marilyn Manson. I don't think he's quite as mad offstage." However, we're thankfully not going to see a Stephen/Marilyn duet just yet! He says, "I have a Marilyn Manson CD and I have listened to a couple of songs, but I'm not majorly into it. It's a bit heavy for me. I can see why people like it. I like all types of music. I can sit down and listen to a Guns N'Roses album or S Club 7." Rawk and indeed Roll!

On Monday, Stephen recorded Cotton On and so make sure you look out for that! See the schedule for more details!

Stay was played on Scottish radio the other day, but it is still not getting enough airplay. This is mainly due to the fact that most radio stations haven't received a copy of the single yet! Don't forget that Stay is released in the UK on Monday 30th April. I'm sure you'll all be going out to buy it, but here's an important note for you when you do. Apparently, if you buy more than one copy of the single together, on one receipt, that will only count for one sale. So, if you buy 50 CDs together, it will only count as one. Therefore, you need to make sure you either BUY EACH CD SEPARATELY or ASK FOR A SEPARATE RECEIPT FOR EACH CD YOU BUY. I know it's a lot to ask but, as I'm sure you'll agree, Stephen's worth it :-)

10/4/01~ Stephen has turned down the lead role in Billy Liar. You may remember that he was in talks about taking on the role last year and, although it has been offered to him, his management say, "We won't be taking it. Stephen's decided his recording career is more important just now." Billy Liar opens in the West End, before going to Broadway later this year. Stephen would have earned 10,000 a week for doing the musical- earning him 520,000 a year. Click on the article below to read the full story:

(c) Laura's Stephen Gately Site

So, Stephen obviously wants Stay to be a big hit for him when it's released at the end of this month (although I myself would have preferred for him to take the role. Turning down half a million quid? He must be mad!) and so make sure you all go out and buy a copy! If you live abroad, then I don't mind getting one (or several!) copies of the single for you, as long as you send me the money in English pounds so that it'll arrive at least a few days before April 30th. Just e-mail me if you're interested.

Stephen performed Stay at the Help A Hallam Child concert in Manchester at the weekend and I've been told that he looked very well!

In the meantime, you may have read on this page that Stephen's currently on a diet. Here's what The Daily Record has to say about it:

GATELY FIGHTS TO QUIT THE FLABZONE

BOYZONE singer Stephen Gately is on a mission to fight the flab.

The Irish star has piled on weight since his last solo single and wants to get back in shape before his next effort Stay.

Gately said: "I've gone on a massive diet because, before the last single, I put on weight.

"I had kidney stones as well, which really affected the work I was doing because I wasn't able to concentrate on it."

Just two months ago, Gately was drafted in to lecture Hear'Say on coping with life as a pop star.

But now he's taking the lead from Hear'say's Noel - who has reportedly gone away to a health farm to slim down during the band's current vacation.

And this is what TOTP Online has to say about it:

Weighty Gately

Stephen Gately is clearly someone who does not suit a more relaxed lifestyle. By his own admission, the solo Boyzoner has turned a little porky in the months since his band stood down from active pop duty. He's now had to cut right down on the chocs and junk food, Geri-style, before his new single 'Stay' hits the shops on April 30th. He told the Daily Record: "I've gone on a massive diet because, before the last single, I put on weight."

As if this weren't stressful enough, poor Stephen had other health matters on his mind at the time. He said: "I had kidney stones as well, which really affected the work I was doing because I wasn't able to concentrate on it." So, if you listen carefully, you should hear the sound of snacking, followed by little whimpers of pain all over Stephen's new song!

Don't forget to check out the TOTP site later this week for a Stephen Gately special they will be running :-)

9/4/01~ I have already said in my schedule that 3 fans will be vying for the chance to meet Stephen on Live and Kicking in 2 weeks on the L and K game The Leakiest Sink. Well, noe here's YOUR chance to try and be one of the lucky three chosen to play in the competition! You'll need to know everything about Stephen, you'll have to sing and you may be gunged if you lose! If you want to enter, you need to state in no more than 30 words why you think you are Stephen's biggest fan (stating that you want to meet STEPHEN GATELY, of course). And, DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE A CONTACT NUMBER!!!!!!!! You can write to:

The Leakiest Sink
Live & Kicking
PO Box 8181
London
W12 6LA

Or you can visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/kicking/competition/competition1.shtml and state why you should meet Stephen! Good luck!
In the meantime, Ronan has denied that he's been avoiding his old Boyzone chums. He says, in an interview with TOTP Plus, "I've just had a baby that's why I haven't talked to anybody...Mr Stephen Gately, wherever you are, I've called you, check your messages and call me back!...I know you're in London, I'm going to find you!" STEPHEN- you have been warned lol!

You can watch the full interview on TOTP Plus this Sunday.

8/4/01~ Stephen will be playing at Party In The Park, and City In The Park this year, to make up for missing out on both events last year, due to his kidney stones. Party In The Park is held in London, and City In The Park is held in Birmingham. Both are due to take place this summer (usually in July and August) and tickets should be going on sale very very soon! More details will be announced as and when I get them. Meanwhile, why not check out my Party In The Park experiences on my Concert Reviews page?
In the meantime, Ronan has been nominated for 2 Capital Fm Awards. He's been nominated for Favourite International Single for Life Is A Rollercoaster, and Favourite International Solo Artist. Unfortunately, Stephen hasn't been nominated at all :(

7/4/01~ Stephen was on CD:UK's worldpop news this morning, looking great as usual! He revealed that he is on a diet after putting on loads of weight when he had kidney stones last year. He said that having kidney stones meant he couldn't concentrate fully on the work. However he says, "Now, I feel on top of the world. I feel really energetic, I'm on my diet, I've lost weight, and I'm taking really good care of myself." To see Stephen's worldpop news interview, either watch the 141KB realfile or watch the 114KB mediafile. And also make sure you check out the video captures page for pictures from the interview! If you did miss the show, however, it is repeated next week. Check out the schedule page for more.

In the meantime, Stephen will be appearing at the Feel The Noise Live 2001 concert at the Manchester Evening News Arena (see schedule for dates and times). Other acts confirmed to appear are Atomic Kitten, Geri Halliwell, A1, Damage, Alsou, 5ive, Marti Pellow, Mel B, BB Mak, Artful Dodger, Brian Harvey, Dario G, Dane Bowers and Architechs, as well as our Stephen. Tickets are fast selling out, but you may be lucky in getting some. Tickets cost 15.00 and are available at TicketLine. Good luck!

And, finally, Stephen is fast Breaking Out Of The Box, by being one of the most requested artists on the cable music channel at the moment! But, make sure you keep requesting Stay so Stephen can make it all the way to the top! Don't forget- his selection number is 701. Call The Box on 09001 44 66 00 in the UK and 1550 188 188 in Eire.

6/4/01~ I have lots of news for you today, so let's get started!

Firstly, in an interview with mtv.co.uk, Stephen revealed a rather, erm, interesting idea for a collaboration involving him and a well-known female singer. He said that he would love to collaborate with one of the Spice Girls, especially Emma Bunton. As you may remember, Stephen wrote a song for Emma last year but, as Stephen told MTV, she was too busy recording her album and, what looks likely to be, her first number 1 single and so she couldn't do it. However, the most, perhaps 'interesting' idea for a collaboration is one with GERI HALLIWELL! Yes, Stephen wants to duet the artist formerly known as Ginger Spice! He says, "I'd like to record a version of 'It's Raining Men' with Geri Haliwell. That'd be nice.". Coincidentally, Geri releases her version of Bridget Jones Diary soundtrack song It's Raining Men on the same day Stephen releases Stay! Click here to hear a clip of Geri's new single- can you imagine Stephen singing it? Hmmmm. . .

In the second piece of news today, Stephen is planning to embark on a solo tour later this year! In an interview with worldpop.com last week, Stephen revealed his plans for a solo tour. . . but also outlined his hopes for a Boyzone tour! He said, "I'm desperate for us to get back together again. I'd love to tour with the lads." But he confirmed that Ronan is the only one standing in the way. He revealed, "Yeah, Ronan is busy with his solo career and can't commit to the band. But I don't hold it against him. Good luck to him. His solo career is going well and I wish him all the best. Were we offered 5m for a tour? Well, I'm not going to talk figures but we were offered a tour by the promoters, yes." He also said that he is in contact with Keith and Shane more than Ronan or Mikey: "I talk to Keith and Shane regularly. I spoke to Keith last night and he was in good form. I haven't spoken to Ronan for a while. I plan to phone him this weekend." He also denied that there is any professional rivalry between him and Ronana, saying, "No. I just go out and do the best I can. If Ronan is more successful than me then good luck to him. I haven't got time to feel jealous." Turning his attentions to his new single, which was written by the Norwegian hitmaking production team Stargate, who have worked with Britney and N Sync, he said, "I was going for a whole Britney/Backstreet/N Sync feel on the record because I'm happiest performing that style of music." He also denied recent reports (already reported on this page) that he has struck up a close friendship with Hear'say's Noel Sullivan. He says, "It was blown out of proportion by the tabloids. I met Noel a couple of times and he's a lovely lad. I wish Hear'Say all the best. The second single is the most difficult time for a band but they've got a huge fanbase. Are there too many boybands and girlbands? No, there can never be enough!"

Thirdly, Stephen is recording an episode of A Question Of Pop (see schedule) on April 21st. The show is filmed in Manchester and tickets are free. Audience members MUST be at least 12 years old and so, if you want to go down and support Stephen, contact Helen McGrath at BBC Manchester on either 0161-244-3676 or 0161-244-3643.

And, finally, TOTP+ and TOTP Online (at http://www.bbc.co.uk/totp) are organising a special Stephen competition where you will be able to win a day out in London with Mr Gately himself! It is being launched at the end of next week and so, no doubt, I'll be able to give you more info then! But, the people who are running it need help with some research. They want you to let them know what their favourite Stephen-related TOTP performances are. You need to go to the Boyzone Dotmusic Forum in order to help! See you there lol!

5/4/01~ If you were thinking about getting tickets for Hear'say's tour tomorrow, then DON'T! Stephen's management (who is also, coincidentally, Hear'says management too) have denied the story that Stephen was going to be a support act for them. It was just a rumour, as Hear'say haven't even decided on their support acts and, when they do decide, Stephen certainly shan't be one of them!

3/4/01~ Stephen recorded a TV show called 70s Mania on Sunday, which is due to be screened on ITV sometime soon. 70s Mania follows on from recent ITV successes Abbamania and Motown Mania. Stephen was involved in Abbamania, but not Motown Mania. For the Abba show, he recorded a version of Chiquitita and for 70s Mania, he will be seen singing a live version of Bright Eyes. Steps, Hear'say and Damage were among the other stars taking part in the show, which was presented by 70s pop idol Donny Osmond. As with the other "Mania" shows, 70s Mania will also be released as an album shortly after the show is screened. News on when the show is to be screened and the album is to be released as and when I get it.
Bit to watch out for: Stephen dancing to YMCA at the end, with Hear'say's Myleene Klass on his back! Apparently, he was very friendly with all of Hear'say, espeially the girls!

Speaking of Hear'say, tickets for their forthcoming tour- the same tour which Stephen is *rumoured* to be supporting them on- go on sale on April 6th. They will be touring throughout the UK in September 2001 and so it's up to you if you decide to go on the off chance that Stephen *might* be there.

2/4/01~ According to yesterday's Sunday Mirror, Stephen has been asked to effectively be a support act on Hear'say's forthcoming tour! As if! Take a look at the short article and see what you think:

Fact or Fiction?

And, you may be interested to know that gay marriage is now legal in Amsterdam. The Dutch capital expects to see 10,000 gay marriages a year. Will Stephen and Eloy make up part of that 10,000 I wonder?
If you watched the Graham Norton interview, you will know that Stephen is staying in the UK in his (very small) appartment in London. Well, it seems that being away from Eloy has now taken its toll on poor Stevie, who arrived back at home in Holland by taxi at 10.30 this morning!

In the meantime, Stephen spoke to worldpop at the weekend about the possibility of doing another Boyzone tour. Although he reckons the tour could still go ahead, he isn't as optimistic as he used to be. He says, "I don't know whether it's going to happen or not. I really want to do it. I'd sign the contract tomorrow but I just think that some people within the group are really, really busy so it's just a matter of time. You never know." However, he did say that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Mikey and Ronan by doing his own solo tour. He also spoke out about Shane's recent claims that Ronan has become arrogant since his solo success. Stephen says, "Shane's Shane. Shane's very straight and he'll tell you what he thinks. I think Shane really wants to do a tour and he's really annoyed that there's maybe a possibility that we won't do a tour."

31/3/01~ Stephen made his first ever appearance on So Graham Norton yesterday- and fantastic it was too!! Stephen appeared to let slip during the show that he had indeed moved from Ireland (permanently, perhaps), and he also said that he is going to be in the UK for the next month. He is staying in the appartment in London which Polydor have provided for him. And, according to Stephen, there's only room to swing a cat! He also said that he doesn't know whether Boyzone have split up, and so it seems he's as much in the dark about that as you and I! Stephen seemingly kept his cool throughout the interview, even when it got slightly rude towards the end of the show- and we all know how Stephen can't help himself from blushing at the best of times! If you haven't seen the interview, go to the Stay Promo part of the performances and interviews page to watch the main part of the interview! And, go to the Stephen By Himself part of the gallery to see some pictures from the show!
Stephen was also on Live and Kicking and SM:TV Live today, and you can see those video files on the site today too! Backstage at CD:UK, Stephen said that he felt well-rested after having a short break from planet pop. He said, "My new single's very upbeat in the Britney/Backstreet Boys style, and I recorded it in Norway. In fact my whole album's going to be upbeat. I love dancing so it's brilliant to be doing a routine again although I do have to admit the routine for my single Stay is pretty tough!" Stephen also found himself a friend in the CD:UK cleaning lady! As soon as he left though, the said lady was seen asking who he was! You can also see a picture from CD:UK on the Stephen By Himself gallery too!

30/3/01~ Stephen's old house in Ireland is up for sale again. . . seems the buyers must have got bored of it or something! If I had IR650,000, I'd gladly take it off their hands!

Don't forget to watch So Graham Norton either tonight or on Wednesday! Erm, I had planned to bring you some pictures of Stephen from the show today but it seems that there are none of him on Graham's website so, erm, here's one of Graham and Ricki Lake for you instead:

(c) So Graham Norton Website

I'll try and get some video captures from tonight's show sorted out for you instead :-)
In the meantime, there's been a change of schedule! Stephen is now scheduled to appear on SM:TV Live tomorrow morning instead of (or as well as) CD:UK. I hope you get this in time although, if you're like me, I'm sure you would have taped SM:TV anyway! Check out my schedule page for more details!

29/3/01~In the meantime, Stephen recorded his appearance on So Graham Norton last night, alongside the other guest, US chat show host, Ricki Lake. From what I've heard, it's an absolutely hilarious interview and one not to be missed! So make sure you tune into the show on Channel 4 tomorrow at 10.30pm, and/or watch the repeat on Wednesday at 11.25pm. If you liked Graham's Attitude interview with Stephen, then you're bound to love this!
Watch out for backstage pics from the show soon!

28/3/01~Mikey has admitted that he only really sees Shane and Keith now. He says that he doesn't really see Ronan, because he's busy working, and he doesn't get to see Stephen because he's, ahem, busy in Amsterdam. Mikey also revealed that Stephen now smokes!! Tsk, tsk. . . I guess that's Eloy's influence then!

27/3/01~ Do you remember the Stephen Gately onliine questionnaire that most of us answered on Stephen's website a few weeks ago? Well, it seems that Stephen IS paying attention to what we had to say! Polydor say that most of us fans wanted an interview with him- and so that's exactly what we're getting! As you already know, Stephen will be interviewed by his new mates Hear'say for an exclusive CD Rom interview on CD2 of Stay. They will be reading out 25 (!!) of the fans questions, along with the fans names and home towns, which will then be answered by Stephen for the special limited edition CD. So, if you haven't asked a question yet, get over to http://www.stephengately.com/hearsay, as you only have til tomorrow!
In the meantime, Polydor have confirmed the full list of what will be on each CD format of Stay. They are as follows:

CD1:

Stay- single
I Can Dream- new song
Stay- Almighty Remix
Stay- video CD Rom

CD2:

Stay- single
Stephen in performance with Boyzone
Stephen/Hear'say CD Rom interview

Both CDs will be released through Polydor records on April 30th. Put that date in your diary now!

26/3/01~ There is a new addition to the Gately de Jong family! No, they haven't secretly gone off and adopted, but Eloy bought Stephen yet another pet for his birthday last week! It's not another dog though- it's a cat named Casper, presumably after Stephen's favourite film "Casper The Friendly Ghost". It is a white cat with blue eyes and red ears. In the meantime, Eloy has said that Stephen will be going away for a long time today. Eloy won't be going with him now they have 3 pets to look after! But, it looks like Stephen is preparing for his Stay promo at last- YAY! (Thanx to Silvia and Nic for all this info!)
Oh, and check out EloydeJong.de for a really sweet fan story about what happened on Stephen's birthday (hint: it involves champagne, and a horse and carriage!)!

25/3/01~ Hear'say heartthrob Noel Sullivan has turned to Stephen to help him deal with the pressures of fame. Ever since meeting at a Smash Hits photoshoot a few weeks ago- where Stephen interviewed the POPSTARS band- they hit it off immediately. Since then, they have become really good mates and Stephen is said to be providing Noel with a shoulder to lean on when things get tough. Noel was recently seen breaking down in tears during the hit ITV show as he said goodbye to his family in Cardiff. Read more in the article Hear'say Noel turns to gay Gately.
In the meantime, according to the Boyzone Worldpop Messageboard, Stay will be released on 2 CDs. CD2 will have, as you know, the Hear'say interview with Stephen and CD1 will have a new track called I Can Dream, a Stay remix and the Stay video.Stay will be release on 2CD's
Oh, and it's the Oscars tonight! Although Stephen hasn't been nominated, I'm sure we'll all be keeping our fingers crossed that Billy Elliot walks away with something!

23/3/01~ Stephen's new video, STAY, is now showing on The Box. His selection number is 701, so make sure you get dialling for it! I saw it yesterday and it is absolutely FAB! And *Stephen in massive choreographed dance routine that looks nothing like So Good shocker* lol! If you haven't seen it yet, then you can do so now by going to Stephen's Videography on this site!
Call The Box on 09001 44 66 00 in the UK and 1550 188 188 in Eire.
Meanwhile, Stephen is being interviewed by the Popstars band Hear'say for a special interview on CD2 of the Stay single, due for release on April 30th. And, that's not all! Stephen wants the fans to send in their questions to him, which will then be asked by Hear'say. You can send in your questions to him by clicking here. probably already has. Maybe they'll come back in five years." However, a UK spokesman says the band are "currently taking time out to pursue solo careers, but expect to get back together in the future".

20/3/01~ On April 11th 2001, the annual Capital fm awards will be held. Ronan, Yvonne, Stephen and Eloy were all there last year to see Ronan pick up Best International Male, and Boyzone pick up Best International Act.

Steo and Eloy at last year's Capital Fm Awards

Unfortunately, Stephen hasn't been nominated this year, but the great thing is that you can still vote for him by putting in "other" on the voting form. Go to the Request Steve page now for details on how to vote!
In the meantime Stephen, Eloy and Ronan were at a concert by *my favourite band in the whole wide world* (not!) Westlife yesterday at Dublin's Point Depot. So, proof that at least TWO of Boyzone are still mates!

18/3/01~ Stephen, Mikey and Ronan were all nominated for Best Selling Irish Single (Male) at yesterdays Irish Music Awards, which is the equivalent to the UK's Brit Awards i.e the music worlds "Oscars". Stephen was nominated for New Beginning, Mikey was nominated for You're My Angel, and Ronan was nominated for Life Is A Rollercoaster. Also nominated were Ian Brady and Mark McCabe. Unfortunately though, none of our Boyz won the award, as it went to Mark McCabe in the end :-( At least they were nominated though! Louis Walsh also won a Lifetime Achievement Award. The only member of Boyzone there was Ronan, and the awards can be seen on VH1 today at 5pm.

17/3/01~ If you live in the North of the UK, you lucky people, Stephen is to help the Help A Hallam Child charity in South Yorkshire. This event raises money for kids in South Yorkshire and this year they are doing a concert at Sheffield Arena. Stephen will be appearing at this concert on April 8th. Tickets cost from 12.50, and went on sale yesterday. The number for the Sheffield Arena is 0114 2565656. Tickets are selling fast and so you better hurry!
Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stephen, who turns 25 today!!!!

16/3/01~ Stephen's new single STAY is apparently now been brought forward a week. It'll now be released on April 30th. Watch out for the video on The Box and MTV very soon! But, whilst you're waiting for the video, go to the Stephen part of the gallery for pics from the shoot!

11/3/01~ Stephen didn't turn up to the Big Brother house after all. He'd told Keith that he was going but, having spent most of his time in London last week, he opted to go back to Holland. Lisa Duffy and Ben from Phats and Small DID, howevere, turn up to give him some support. You can catch up with all the gossip from the Big Brother house throughout Keith's days in there by going to my new Big Brother page.

9/3/01~ As you know, Celebrity Big Brother begins TONIGHT on BBC1 and Channel 4. Make sure you watch the show as Keith says that Stephen and Shane *may* turn up to give him some moral support. However, Stephen is believed to have flown back home to Holland, but apparently recorded something for the show, which might be shown tonight. So, if you live in the UK and Ireland, be sure to watch and see if Stephen makes a surprise appearance! If he does, however, you can be sure to see the interview here on this site! Check out my schedule page for full details of the Celebrity Big Brother TV schedule.
At the moment, Keith is 3rd favourite to win :-)

8/3/01~ Stephen and Eloy were at a gig Mikey did at London's trendy Kashmir Club on Monday night. Also there were Tina Barrett from S Club 7, Keith, and Shane. Ronan was the only Boyzone member missing, fuelling further rumours of a massive rift beween Ronan and the other members of Boyzone. The official word is that Ronan can't commit to a Boyzone tour this year because he wants to concentrate solely on making it in America but this latest incident has sparked off rumours that there's more to it than meets the eye. The worst thing is though that dates at Belfast's Odyssey, Dublin's Point Depot, and London's Wembley Arena had already been booked and tickets were due to go on sale on St Patrick's Day! With Ronan pulling out at the last minute, these dates and venues have had to be scrapped. Keith spoke of his disappointment on Chris Moyles' radio show this afternoon. He said that it's Ronan's fault that the fans are so disappointed. When asked whether he still gets on with Ronan, however, he simply used Anne Robinson's well known catchphrase of, "you are the weakest link, goodbye!" He was very cagey to say the least, but said how much he loves Mikey's album and how impressed with it he is, and promised to streak if he wins celebrity big brother- see below for details of that. He also revealed that, by not doing this tour, they have lost out on far more than the 3 million the press keep mentioning! Oh, and you'll be relieved to know that, after just one single, Keith 'n' Shane have disbanded!
Ronan is also set to re-release his debut solo album next month, with extra tracks. The paperback version of his auobiography is also released next month. Ronan has also, apparently, asked his wife to be his new manager! Whatever next? Eloy managing Stephen?
Stephen shot the video for STAY yesterday, finally finishing at 3am!! He is said to be very pleased with the result, and exclusive pictures will be put up on his official site next week. watch out for the video on MTV and The Box soon! Stephen has also revealed that he has finally fixed the gap between his teeth! Read more about this in an interview with Smash Hits this month, as well as Stephen discussing his hopes for a Boyzone tour.
P.S: Sir Cliff Richard was on TV yesterday saying how he likes Boyzone cos they ALL can really sing. He said that some boybands don't sing on their records, but he's convinced that BZ actually do!

6/3/01~ There is a new competition on Stephen's Official Site. In the Tour Office, dates for the Rest Of The World are still to be announced. Also, the video for Stay will be in the screening room very soon!

2/3/01~ The bad news is that Ronan's new single- Lovin' Each Day, which is not on his debut album- is going to be released on April 16th, the same day as Stephen's STAY was supposed to be released, and also the day which Mikey's debut album Meet Me Halfway is released. Ronan said at the San Remo festival in Italy that his new single is released in Ireland on April 13th, and in the UK on April 16th, and that he is shooting the video in LA this coming week. Thankfully, Stephen has changed the release of Stay til MAY 7th!!!!! Phew!

27/2/01~ As you all know, The Brit Awards were held yesterday. Despite being up for Best International Male and Best Pop Act, Ronan walked away with nothing after losing out to Eminem and Westlife respectively. Stephen also came away empty-handed after the Billy Elliot soundtrack lost out to American Beauty in the Best Soundtrack category.
Despite this, there are some reasons to be cheerful! Stephen's management are apparently very confident and excited about the release of Stay. Stephen will be shooting the video shortly and will then begin a gruelling promotional schedule for it. There are also talks of maybe a few Stephen solo tour dates later this year, and also lots of live PAs like Party In The Park and Smash Hits!

24/2/01~ Stephen was on the British version of POPSTARS *checks watch* just over 2 hours ago, giving the band (now called Hear'Say) a bit of advice. He was also sporting a new tan and longer hair! You can watch his interviews (and new look!) on my performances and interviews section of this site in both real player and media player format. You can also catch his interview with the band in an 84-page Smash Hits POPSTARS special magazine, coming soon! So watch out for that!

23/2/01~ Stephen had breakfast at Downing Street recently with Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie! Ooooooh, get Stephen! The reason for this meeting was because of Stephen's involvement in the Millennium Volunteers project (mentioned previously on this page). Stephen, along with other stars like Five, had breakfast with the Blair family before each celebrity was required to give a speech about their childhood and what this project means to them. Stephen's speech was fantastic, so I've heard!!!
Stephen has also expressed his disappointment at narrowly missing out on an Oscar this year, and has also revealed how he's been taking Dutch lessons! He can now order 3 nuggets and fries at Burger King! Read more in an interview with Stephen here.
Don't forget to watch POPSTARS on TV tomorrow at 8.15pm!!!

20/2/01~ Stephen has participated in a report into the world of pop. 47 stars were quizzed and full details of the report are being sent to PM Tony Blair, in a bid to gain a Minister of Pop. The report, entitled The State Of Pop, was conducted by Top of the Pops magazine, and may be published in the next edition, due out early next month. This report established that the average pop star is aged 21, single and has 2 tattoos. 47 stars, who all had Top 40 hits last year, were quizzed on subjects like how much a pint of milk costs. In regards to relationships, twenty are single, 13 in a relationship and one is divorced. The other 13 declined to comment. Their average age has been found to be 21, with the oldest being 30. Most got a record deal at just 17. The star they most want to work with is Britney Spears, followed by Michael Jackson, Lucy Pearl, Sisqo and Craig David. Artists the stars favoured included Rod Stewart, Phil Collins and Bonnie Tyler. However, the most hated acts were Daphne & Celeste, followed by Northern Line, A1, A Teens, Cartoons, Girl Thing and Steps. The Bizarre column in The Sun is the showbiz column favoured by most stars.
In the meantime, watch out for Stephen as star reporter in Smash Hits soon!! He was asked to interview the 'Popstars' band, called Hear'Say. For those who don't know (where HAVE you been?), Popstars is a show that has been following the formation of a brand new band in the UK, and are managed by Stephen's management. Watch out for Stephen in an episode of the show soon! And you can be sure to read Stephen's interview on this very site when it's published!
You can find out more about Popstars on their Official Website

16/2/01~ Congratulations to everybody involved (including Stephen!) with Billy Elliot, as the film scooped FIVE prestigious London Films' Critic Circle Awards. Jamie Bell won Best British Newcomer, Julie Walters won Best British Actress, it was named Best British Film, Stephen Daldry won Best British Director, and Greg Brenman and Jonathan Finn won Best British Producers. Congrats!
In the meantime, Mikey has confirmed that his next single release will be on March 26th, with his first solo album being released on April 16th- same day as Stephen releases Stay. Coincidentally, Ronan's next single is released the week before Stephen's!

14/2/01~ Happy Valentine's Day!! Hope you've all received a card from that special someone. . . *sniff sniff*, I'll only be cuddling up to my Stephen doll tonight, I'm afraid!
Anyway. . . Stephen was in Dublin last week for little baby Leah's christening. He wasn't playing the part of the proud godfather though- that honour went to Eloy who, as I have already told you, is Leah's godfather! On the way to Dublin, Stephen stopped off in London to do some various magazine interviews, including one with Smash Hits. You can be sure to read these interviews on this site as soon as they get published! At the moment, ideas are being thought up for the video to Stay, and Stephen will be shooting it very very soon. Also, you may remember Stephen being in talks a few months ago for the role of Billy Liar in the West End musical of the same name? Well, after months of speculation, it would seem that Stephen WAS offered the role but turned it down, opting instead to concentrate on his solo career. This isn't the first musical he has turned down. He was also offered the lead role in the new Ben Elton/Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Beautiful Game last year, but turned it down for the same reason.
In the meantime, the Oscars were announced yesterday. There was a real shock as Jamie Bell wasn't nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for Billy Elliot, even though Julie Walters WAS nominated in the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as the dance teacher Mrs Wilkinson in Billy Elliot. The film got 3 nominations in all- which isn't that bad for a British film. Stephen Daldrey is up for the Best Director Oscar for Billy Elliot and Lee Hall, who wrote the film, is up for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. Unfortunately, Billy Elliot didn't receive any nominations in any of the music categories and so Stephen won't be able to perform at the ceremony, like we all had hoped :-(
And, speaking of Billy Elliot, I have already told you that it will be released on DVD on April 2nd but, unlike Stephen, if, like me, you don't have a DVD player then the good news is that the film is being released on video in the UK and Ireland on 14th May! You are now able to pre-order it at WHSmiths (http://www.whsmith.co.uk>) stores up and down the country.

9/2/01~ Stephen was in London yesterday for the launch of Comic Relief. For those of you living abroad who may not have heard of Comic Relief, it is a televised event held every 2 years where the country holds sponsored events in order to rasie money to help people in Africa. The even takes place on March 16th this year, and Stephen is rumoured to be singing Stay at the event and so watch out for that!

8/2/01~ Shane has sensationally told The Mirror that Ronan has axed him from Boyzone, simply because he "isn't gay enough." Shane believes that Ronan has made him the Boyzone outcast because of his bad boy antics, and that Ronan always wanted him to be more like Stephen. Shane said at the NME Awards on Tuesday, "Bloody Ronan threw me out of Boyzone because I wasn't gay enough - it's as simple as that. He was always a prat and I'm happy to tell you I haven't seen or spoken to him for weeks. And, do you know what? I think maybe the next time I see that jumped-up p**** I'll give him a damned good slapping." Shane's comments come at the time when Ronan has revealed that he was never Westlife's manager- it was all a PR stunt in order to get them a deal. Shane does, however, insist that he will reunite with Boyzone- but only for the money. He says, "What do you want me to say? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in it for the money."

4/2/01~ Stephen, along with Five and Ant 'n' Dec, has been recruited as a Millennium Volunteer Ambassador. He will be joining forces with the UK Education Secretary David Blunkett to support moves to get more teenagers to become community volunteers. He will be taking part in voluntary schemes and will talk about the benefits as part of his role. The Community Champions fund will be extended to support ideas such as sports programmes and music projects in schools. Mr Blunkett is said to believe it is vital that we develop and support ideas and voluntary activities which enable people to help others in their communities.

3/2/01~ Stephen yesterday confirmed that he will be doing a second album soon. He told Michael Barrymore on My Kind Of Music that his long term goals are to keep on doing what he's doing and to do a second album soon. You can watch his performance of I Believe and his interview by going to the performances and interviews section of the site.
Meanwhile, you can now answer a special Stephen questionnaire on his site at stephengately.com. Apparently, Stephen wanted to make STAY extra special for his fans by putting out your favourite track and the extra material that you would most want included on his next single. You can also win a personalised gold disc on New Beginning. . . YAY, the album's gone gold!
And, finally, the auction on Keith's site is now CLOSED. It managed to raise 5000 for Childline, and Keith's jacket was sold for over 300 Irish pounds, and Stephen's CD went for 215 Irish pounds.

1/2/01~ SOME BILLY ELLIOT NEWS: Jamie Bell, who played Billy elliot in the film of the same name, is up for 2 prestigious awards over the next couple of months. First up is the BAFTAs, which take place on February 26th. Jamie is up for Best Actor, and Billy Elliot has received a total of FOURTEEN nominations! The ceremony will be shown live on Sky one. Then, on March 11th- 2 weeks before the Oscars- the Screen Actors Guild (SAGs) awards will be held. Jamie is up for Best Actor alongside prestigious Hollywood actors like Tom Hanks (for Castaway) and Russel Crowe (for Gladiator). So I think the chances of Billy Elliot being nominated at the Oscars rate pretty highly!

30/1/01~ In the meantime, Tony Gately has split up with his girlfriend Sophie and is now dating some fan in Scotland! So there's hope for us yet!

29/1/01~ Stephen and Eloy flew into Dublin on Friday and left to go back to Amsterdam in the early hours (6am!) of yesterday morning. Stephen will take a few days break before getting back to work, and the release of the new funked-up version of Stay on April 16th.
And, finally, you can still bid for a signed Shane and Keith single, signed Stephen album and Keith's jacket at http://www.keithduffy.net. The highest bid for Stephen's album so far is 215 Irish pounds- whilst Keith's jacket is going for 300 Irish pounds!

28/1/01~ Stephen, Shane, Keith and Mikey all appeared at the Childline Concert in Dublin yesterday. Ronan wasn't able to attend what could have been a fully-fledged Boyzone reunion, because Yvonne is due to give birth in the next couple of weeks. Stephen apparently looked really happy (I say 'apparently' cos I haven't seen it yet) and sang 3 songs. He sang I Believe, New Beginning and the new version of Stay. Keith, who was presenting the show, introduced Stephen by saying how much he loves him (!). Mikey didn't sing, unfortunately. He just came on at the end for the finale, which Stephen was strangely missing from. Hmmm. . . Shane and Keith sang Girl You Know It's True, which ended very controversially as Shane ran up to a camera and declared, "press, kiss my ****ing a**e!" in front of an audience with children as young as 3 there. Keith also announced that Boyzone will be touring in November of this year, and so get your money ready! You can auction for items from Childline (including a signed Stephen CD!) at Keith's site. Oh, and Stephen has a 'longer' haircut!
In other news, Stay won't be released now until April 16th- which, coincidentally, happens to be the day after my birthday! What a present!
And, finally, both Stephen and Ronan have just been voted 2 of Ireland's hottest men!

27/1/01~ According to Stephen's website (in his biography), he is well into work on his second album and is planning towards doing some concert dates in the UK later this year!
And, according to polydor, Stephen *might* be delaying the release of Stay until April. It makes sense because he DOES have rather a lot on in March- his birthday, Eloy's birthday, the GLAAD Awards, the Oscars. . .

24/1/01~ I am sure you have all heard Michael Jackson's You Are Not Alone. Those of you living in the UK and Ireland, and some of you abroad, may have seen Stephen sing this song on ITV's Sing It Your Way. If you haven't heard it, you can do so by clicking here. Well, there is currently a campaign to try and get the song released as either a single, or a b-side. It doesn't matter if you haven't seen the show- you all know what a big Jacko fan Stephen is and so you know that his version was totally brilliant! All you need to do is copy and paste this information below and send it to all your e-pals. Thanks!

22/1/01~ Some Stephen news today, courtesy of Kian Egan from Westlife!!!! In Westlife's Column in Irish newspaper The Sunday World, Kian talks about Stephen and reveals what he's been up to lately. He talks about the Childline Concert that Stephen is due to appear at in Ireland on Saturday. Kian says that, "Stephen Gately will be making a welcome return to Ireland for Childline as well. He's now based in Amsterdam, of course, and working on his pop career from there." He also talks about the Oscars, sounding quite definite that Stephen will be there! He says, "Steve recently got the fantastic news that he's to perform at the Oscars in Hollywood this year. He sings the track I Believe on the soundtrack of the movie everyone s talking about - Billy Elliot." And, finally, he completely contradicts the recent MTV Asia reports (see below) that Stephen is taking a year off work by saying that, " He's got a new single, Stay, due out in March, so I'm sure he'll be singing it live on stage at The Point next Saturday night." Well, it remains to be seen whether Kian's information is accurate, but Westlife are quite close to Boyzone and so you never know. . . Although polydor have just confirmed that Stay WILL be stephen's next single release in March, and so at least that part is right. According to polydor, they have just received a new mix of Stay and it is absolutely brilliant!
Meanwhile, Billy Elliot unfortunately lost out on winning a Golden Globe award in America today. Jamie Bell was there, and he got a standing ovation from top movie stars like Tom Hanks who love the film! The Golden Globes is, however, an indicator of which films may be nominated for an Oscar and so it looks like Billy elliot is in with a very good chance!

21/1/01~ Stephen is, some of you may be pleased to know, now on a diet!! Read Steffi's Fan Story for more information about that!

19/1/01~ Billy Elliot will be released on DVD on April 2nd 2001. You can pre-order the DVD at my Boyzone shop, in either English Pounds or American Dollars. It is as yet unclear as to whether that release date will also include the film on video as well, so watch this space for more details!

17/1/01~ Congratulations to Stephen, whose album New Beginning has been nominated for the Outstanding Album Of The Year award by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The awards take place in 4 separate ceremonies in New York, Los Angeles, Washington and San Fransisco. The award's are America's best-known annual gay entertainment awards- so it's not bad for Stephen, whose album hasn't even been released in America yet! Stephen is the only artist from the UK and Ireland to earn a nomination. He will be battling it out for the award against KD Lang's Invisible Summer, Sleater Kinney's All Hands On The Bad One, Janis Ian's God And The FBT and Patty Larkin's Regrooving The Dream. The GLAAD Media Awards announced Stephen's nomination yesterday. The awards will take place throughout April and May.GOOD LUCK STEPHEN!
In the meantime, I forgot to mention ages ago (so you probably know about it now already), that Eloy will be Leah's godfather. Stephen is already godfather to Michelle's other child, Jordan, and so she has decided to make Eloy godfather to Leah.

15/1/01~ According to reports on MTV Asia today, Stephen has shelved all plans to release any singles this year. He was going to be releasing a string of singles over the next 12 months, but this has now been stopped. Instead, he is apparently aiming to completely reinvent himself and come back with a completely new image and sound, following the reports recently that he is about to lose his solo record deal. However, his record company still insist that he WILL be releasing Stay in March and so it is possible that these new reports are completely false. Let's hope so!
In the meantime, Stephen said yesterday that he doesn't know a thing about reports that he will be singing at the Oscars in March :-( I guess we'll just have to wait until the Oscar nominations are announced on February 13th. If Billy Elliot is nominated for Best Soundtrack, it is highly likely that Stephen WILL be singing!

11/1/01~ Stephen and Eloy are to be grandparents! Well, sort of. . . Joey (yes, as in their pet shih-tzu Joey) is apparently going to be a dad soon! Stephen and Eloy have been trying to get Joey to have puppies with Eloy's sister's female shih-tzu, but without any success. Now, however, if the rumour is to be believed, they have been successful and Joey's puppies should be born soon! I want first pick okay?
Ronan Keating has added some extra dates to his solo tour this May. He will now play Sheffield on May 5th, Nottingham on May 15th, Birmingham on May 18th, Manchester on May 26th, Wembley Arena on May 13th and Glasgow SECC on May 24th. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am. You can buy them online at TicketMaster.

8/1/01~ I Believe is still hanging around the UK chart, despite being released 3 months ago. Well, the bottom end of the chart that is! ;-) Although it is slowly climbing, so that's good. It was number 121 last week, but has now jumped 24 places to 97, YAY!

7/1/01~ Congratulations to Boyzone, who were last night announced as the 47th Greatest Number 1 song ever made, in a programme for channel 4. Cathy Richmond, of Belfast, said that the song roused the fading heartbeat of her ailing unborn child and pulled him through again when he was born four months premature. Baby Ryan's two now and mother and son are still big fans. John Lennon's Imagine was at number 1, and Stephen said that it was one of his favourite songs.
In the meantime, the Irish Daily Star has reported that Boyzone will do a final farewell tour next year. Ronan has been quoted as saying that him and Stephen have had a meeting and decided to do one more tour before concentrating on their solo stuff.

6/1/01~ Stephen has been asked to sing at this year's OSCAR ceremony, which takes place in America in March! Although nominations haven't been announced yet, the fact that Stephen has been asked to sing suggests that Billy Elliot will be nominated for Best Soundtrack. Jamie Bell, who played Billy in the movie, will be going along to the ceremony too, and so the chances that Billy Elliot will be nominated in a few of the more prestigious categories seem likely. The Oscars will give Stephen a chance to show the American audience just what he's capable of. The full article, which appeared in NOW magazine, can be seen below. Just click on it to enlarge!

4/1/01~ Apparently, Eloy is going to be ickle baby Leah's godfather! Stephen is already godfather to Michelle's son, Jordan, and to compensate Leah not being a boy (as "he" would have been named after Eloy), Michelle wants Eloy to be Leah's godfather!

3/1/01 Happy New Year!!!!!
In the meantime, it has been reported that Stephen may be recording a duet with actress-cum-singer Martine McCutcheon. Martine recently recorded her own one off special TV show, where one of her male fans said he'd like to see her do a duet with Stephen or George Michael. Martine has since said that she's love to sing a duet with Stephen- and it seems Stephen might oblige to her request. However, if any duet is recorded, it probably won't see the light of day until 2002 as Martine will be busy doing the West End production of My Fair lady this year and Stephen will be busy with his solo career and possibly Billy Liar.
And finally, if you were worried about reports of arguing between Stephen and Eloy, worry no more! A fan who met the couple at their house a couple of days ago has said that they were "all over each other" and "holding hands and kissing a lot". They were out walking their dogs and looked very much in love as they sat on a bench!
