Ten Top Tips for
Reading at Home
Here
are some top tips to help make your shared reading sessions full of pleasure
and purpose. Remember that you should get actively involved with the book
and don't forget to have FUN!
-
Find a comfortable, quiet place to read.
-
Look through the book with a parent, talk
about what you think the story might be about.
-
Try to read different books but you can
read the same book if it makes you more confident.
-
Decide how you are going to read the book.
You may want to read a page and then listen to your parent read a page.
-
If you are stuck on a word, try reading
it slowly and if you think it's wrong ask your parent.
-
Don't worry if you get little words wrong,
just read it again and try to remember it for next time.
-
If you make lots of mistakes then try an
easier book and come back when you are feeling confident.
-
Talk about the story when you are finished
it will help you remember what you have been reading about.
-
Be patient! Don't read too fast as you
will make mistakes!
-
Don't try to read too much at once because
you will lose concentration and make mistakes. But overall, HAVE FUN!
