Bus service extends almost all over the island. Buses operate from 5.30 am to 8 pm in urban areas and 6.30 am to 6.30 pm in rural regions. A late service exists between Port-Louis and Curepipe via Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes, Vacoas and vice versa until 11 pm.

Taxis can be hired from hotels or at taxi stands for a half-day or a full-day tour. Fares vary and always include the trip back. Taxi fares should be agreed to before starting the journey.

Visitors have the possibility of visiting the island by renting a car.

Cruising can be enjoyed on the coastal region in the morning or late afternoon when sunset can be watched and visitors can feel cool breezes on their faces. Moreover some cruising organisations provide trips to the small and attractive islands that surround Mauritius.

Some of the islands lying off the coast are nature reserves which can still be explored by contacting tour operators. You can visit those islands, snorkel or just relax and enjoy the tranquility and peace. The most famous are: Ile aux Cerfs off the east coast, Gunner's Point, Flat Island, Round Island and Serpent Island in the north, Ile d'Ambre in the north-east, Ile aux Bénitiers off the west coast and Ile aux Aigrettes in the south east region.

Air Mauritius Bell Jet Ranger helicopters are available for sightseeing tours and transfers.
