The Doorbell's Night

I settled in my easy chair
to relax and watch TV-
but on the screen a werewolf's face
came staring right at me,
When each and every channel showed
a monster of some kind,
my active imagination soared
in high-gear overtime
This spooky night, I'm home alone
a full moon lights the sky
Did Jack O'Lantern wink at me?
He'll soon be pumpkin pie.
Suddenly, the doorbell sounded
Who is that at my door?
Is it Edgar Allen Poe's
Raven quoting, "Nevermore"
Or is it just an ugly witch
with a crooked nose.
Perhaps a Ballerina standing
on her tippy-toes.
Could it be a one-eyed Pirate
looking for his loot.
A Princess searching for her Prince;,
It may be Puss 'n Boots
Or possibly Mad Hatter seeking
 time to set his clock
By chance the Starship Enterprise
just beamed down Mr. Spock.
Can it be a starving Hobo
racked with hunger pangs.
Or very well a thirsty vampire
out to sink its fangs
What if it's Nighmare Freddie,
or a zonbie's vacant stare.
Or a sleepwalking Godzilla
breathing flames,  eyes red glare.
Once more the doorbell sounded as
 I opened it to see,
Each and all I had imagined...
Loudly chanting, "TRICK OR TREAT."
