The official name for the Evas is "General Purpose Decisive Combat Weapon- Artificail Human Evangelion." Cloned from Adam and devoid of a soul, they can be controlled by those who have a soul.

Evangelion- derived from "Evangel", meaning "Gospel"

Pilots ride in the Evangelions throught the use of an "Entry Plug." A long white cylindrical shape, the pilots sit in these plugs which are inserted into the base of the Evangelions neck. An autopilot system, "Dummy Plug System," is designed for pilotless use. However, due to the fact that it is impossible to create a digital soul, the dummy plugs have limited syncroniztion ability with the Evas. Due to their enormous size, the Evangelions require an eomous amount of power. Through an umbilical cable attached to the back, the Evas hav a constant power supply. However in an emergency, if the cable is ever disconnected, the Evangelions have 5 minutes of back-up powerat normal use, and 1-minute of back-up power at full use.
