JIM LAFLAMME

The 60's brought influences such as the Beatles and other bands that made a fim-loving, lighthearted impression on Jim. He picked up his first guitar at age ten.

Artists like Jeff Beck and Alvin Lee made a lasting impression on Jim. Others, including Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana made a permanent imprint with their intensity and versatility. The passion of Blues artists like Buddy Guy also helped Jim develop an appreciation for the clarity with which the guitar is capable of being used to reveal one's innermost soul... Meanwhile bands that accented the interplay between musicians provided an appreciation of the need for teamwork. One such band, Steely Dan, remains Jim's all-time favorite ensemble even today.

Later, Jim focused closely on the styles of top performers. He studied the techniques of young wizards such as Allen Holdsworth, Eric Johnson, Eddie VanHalen, Larry Carlton, Robbin Ford and others. It was at this point that Jim's level of intensity, maturity and hard work forged an impressive level of adaptability yet umque personal signature.

Jim comes to Backyard Strut following adventures with several Central Massachusetts area bands. His style blends well with the Blues-soaked flavors with which Backyard Strut has built a solid reputation.

BACKYARD STRUT is charting new horizons with Jim's help. Three songs on the 1996 Backyard Strut CD feature Jim's tasteful playing and serve up a tantalizing hint of the intriguing music yet to come from BACKYARD STRUT.
