Okay,
what will it really cost me? |
|
Because
the GSDAHS is a California charter school, we receive our funding
from the State of California. Therefore, we can provide you with textbooks
and other materials at no cost to you. |
|
|
What
Curriculum Can I Use? |
|
You
can use any curriculum you want; our job is to make sure it meets
the California State Standards so that your child will be able to
enter a California public school at his/her appropriate grade level.
Although we can not purchase religious textbooks for you with state
funds, you can include religious instruction in your curriculum--you
just have to purchase any religious materials yourself. |
|
|
What
Grade Levels Do You Include? |
|
The
GSDAHS currently covers kindergarten through eighth grade. In January
we started a pre kindergarten (EAK) program for children who have
their fifth birthdays between December 3, 1999, and April 1, 2000.
Our charter also allows us to include instruction to ninth through
twelfth grade students; we hope to include 9th grade instruction next
year. |
|
|
How
Does Your Program Work? |
|
The
minimum requirement for the GSDAHS program is monthly meetings with
our consultants. At these meetings, you will show us your child's
work during the previous month and set up your curriculum for the
next month. At these meetings, our consultants will work with you
to set up the curriculum that best meets your child's strengths and
weaknesses. You can draw from an assortment of textbooks and/or supplemental
materials to make learning fun for you and your child. |

|
Do
You Provide Any Social Opportunities For Our Family? |
|
Social
activities are an important part of a home school program. We provide
elective classes that all students can participate in and make friends
while learning a special skill. We also have special activities/workshops
scheduled twice a month for our students. For parents, we provide
monthly Parent Chats, a time when parents can share ideas, resources,
concerns, and requests for help. We also offer monthly parent inservices/workshops. |
|
|
What
Electives Do You Provide? |
|
Our
students are currently attending tumbling, swimming, art, and Spanish
classes. We are also making the final arrangements for sign language
classes and Irish Step dance classes through the Academy of Performing
Arts. We have arranged private music lessons at a discount price through
McCreas Music in La Mesa. If your child is not interested in these
options, we give each child a $65 credit each month to apply to elective
classes that you arrange for your child at a neighborhood YMCA, recreation
center, or nearby business. |
|
|
What
Inservices/Workshops Do You Provide For Parents? |
|
We
have provided inservices on how children learn, time management skills
for home school parents, and how students can add pizzazz to their
reports and projects. In addition, our parents have been invited to
attend inservices provided to the teachers of the Jamul-Dulzura Union
School District. |
|
|
Do
We Have To Live In a Specific School District To Enroll In The GSDAHS? |
|
If
you live anywhere in San Diego County or any county touching San Diego
County, you may enroll in the GSDAHS. Our families live in most areas
of San Diego County. We currently have offices in Jamul and Escondido
to better serve familes throughout San Diego County. |
|
|
When
Can My Child Start? |
|
You
can enroll your child in the GSDAHS at any time. We accept enrollment
throughout the year. |
|
|
How
Do I Sign Up? |
|
Just
call us at 619-669-7740 to set up an orientation meeting with our
director. You will need to bring two proofs of residency (utility
bill, insurance or mortgage statement, etc.). We suggest that your
child take the math placement tests at www.saxonpub.com
and www.mathusee.com
before your orientation meeting. |
