Those of you who had a chance to look at the premiere of this magazine, will no doubt have
noticed a change in format.
To be truthful, I don't own an Apple IIgs computer, and was never quite as fond of the
Hyperstudio environs as is my co-editor. I found it troublesome, time-consuming, and at times,
ghastly to look at. But I suppose much of this can be attributed to the slow processor
speed, and the IIgs's lack of ability to produce the vibrant images I'm used to.
And not besides the point, I don't believe, necessarily, that a magazine devoted to
fiction should spend the majority of its time attempting to make itself visually pleasing.
This is what the stories should instill in your thoughts. And I'm sure we did not
succeed with the first issue, though the time was spent (wasted) none-the-less.
When I saw the first edition of Turley's A2-2000, my vision of what SFmm should be was
immediately changed. I was hooked with its simple design (typeface only), and greater
accessibility to others in the Apple II series. I felt that SFmm should change to
this--some might say, antique--format without delay. And I did. But I still wasn't
completely satisfied.
Now that Odessa has its own ISP account (cheap too, I don't know why we didn't get
one before), my attention has been drawn to the web, and all of the possibilities this
place has to offer.
Here, SFmm can be read by anyone. I'll keep out most of the tricks, such as javascript,
tons of graphics, etc, to keep it simple enough for even the lynx reader. And possibly,
the issues will be archived in the above mentioned format, for the convenience of our
A2 readers, since that's what OE was intended for to begin with.
I hope you'll stay with us.

from the first Apple ][ version of SFmm. This editorial, being that
as it may, will probably be of no interest
to the newcomer to this webzine.
