Temple Mound Arts is the Studio and internet outlet for the Artworks created by Mtis Artist/Artisan Ed Littlefox. Ed' talents with Stone, Wood, Furs and Leather, Water Color and Earth Pigments have won top honors at Art Shows throughout the Southeast.
In his youth, Ed began carving Horses and Birds from wood. His talent was recognized early, and enhanced in an informal atmosphere by many well-known Cherokee Artists resident on the Qualla Boundery, where he grew up.  Though Ed is a mixed-blood (Mtis) Cherokee/Saponi, he is not an enrolled member of any recognized American Indian Tribe, and in no way advertises his work as American Indian.
Ed's work in Stone, in the form of Pipes and Incense Bowls, stands alone, as each piece is inspired by ancestral ceremonial objects dating back to the pinnacle of the Mississippian Mound-Builder period of U.S. prehistory, to which Ed's lineage is indelibly linked. Ed's Effigy Pipes are depictive of styles dating back 3500 years, but none are duplications. Each is unique unto itself and, in many cases, made from the same Stone, from the same quarries used by the origonal pipe-makers from the beginning of the Art. With the exception of Catlinite and Alabaster, all of the raw material Ed uses comes from North and South Carolina.
Depicted on these pages are photographs of Ed's 'standard' designs, and examples of his one-of-a-kind Effigy carvings. Each Pipe is completely hand-carved and polished and all materials used are Natural.
The Stems are of either split Appalachian Red Cedar or Sourwood which Ed gathers locally.
