Salzburg Connection

Hohensalzburg

Joseph Mohr was born in the City of Salzburg, Austria. This is where he was baptised, grew up, sang in church choirs and was ordained a priest.

31 Steingasse

The apartment where Mohr grew up was situated at 31 Steingasse. The original building was destroyed during World War II and this building was constructed on the historic site.

Salzburg Cathedral (Dom)

The Cathedral, known as the Dom, was the parish church for Joseph Mohr at the time he was born. He was baptised in the Dom on December 11, 1792, a few hours after his birth in the old section of Salzburg. During his student years, he served as one of the cathedral musicians.

Salzburg rooftops

Looking across the rooftops of what is called the "Old City" of Salzburg, the view has not changed much during the past two centuries.
