Eva Unit-00
Ayanami Rei's blue Evangelion was the prototype, created to see if the Evangelion
series was actually feasible. During a test, it went beserk, and Rei was seriously
injured. For some reason or another, it was fine afterwards.
Eva Unit-01
Ikari Shinji's purple Evangelion was the test type eva, the first used in combat
(with the third angel, Sachiel). Unit-01 took an S2 engine into herself when
she went beserk and ate the 14th angel. (There seems to be a real problem with
that beserker stuff...)
Eva Unit-02
Sohryu Asuka Langley's red Evangelion was the first Eva created for actual
combat conditions, by the Third Branch of NERV, in Germany. Unit-02 was the
first to fight underwater (with the 6th angel, Gaghiel), and the first to use
the 'D-type' equipment (for high temperatures, in a lava pit in ep. 10, against
the 8th angel, Sandalphon.)
Eva Unit-03
Eva Unit-03 was to be the first to use an S2 engine (like the angels), and
not need an external power source. However during testing, it disappeared,
along with the entire Second Branch of NERV, in Nevada. (Perhaps that is somewhere
in Area S-2...?) Like seriously disappeared, like it all imploded or something.
One theory was that it was swallowed by a Sea of Dirac.
Eva Unit-04
Unit-04 was transported by air from to Matsuhiro, Nagano, where the second
synchronization laboratory and facility of NERV was located. During transport,
Eva Unit-04 was infiltrated by the 13th angel. This was discovered during it's
activation test, when it destroyed the facility, and disabled Units 00 and 02.
It was defeated when the dummy plug of Unit-01 was activated, and destroyed Unit-04
