Review of 11.06.01 -- Backyard; Austin TX

Opening: Grandaddy (very good but sadly they had some audio probs and had to cut their set short!)

At about 9:30 or so Coldplay came charging out, opening with an energetic "shiver" playing to a packed house of screaming, standing, sweaty fans who were braving the 95+ austin temperatures in this outdoor venue.

Chris was in great form as were the other members, worries of sickness in the lead singer were put to rest with the sweet sound of his voice and the heart pounding energy and charisma that he poured upon the audience.

The band played all the favorites, almost every song off of Parachutes except for high speed, life is for living, and the tittle track and also teased the audience with several new songs including the dark rush of blood to the head, animals, and my personal favorite, God put a smile on my face.

The band also threw in the beautiful "see you soon" which the crowd was begging for throughout the show.  The clincher however came at the end with the INCREDIBLE cover of "lost highway" which left the audience energized and full of praise for the UK band.

Afterwards, the band seemed tired but happy, everyone but chris, who excused himself saying in fact that he was under the weather, greeted a few lucky fans backstage with autographs and tired smiles.  I know for a fact that there were several new-born coldplay fans after that fantastic performance.

It was so satisfying to know that they are even better live than produced and packaged onto a cd.  a truly talented band and a truly memorable show.
