V2001
Well thats V2001 over with for another year, and gossip has been rife about Coldplay. Firstly, there was news of a budding romance between Coldplay's Chris Martin and female artist Nelly Furtado (below) and news filtered through about the new album. Chris revealed that recording for the new album would begin on October 4th in London.
The band played several new songs at V2001 (as has been the case for the last few months), check out the set list below.
Most people were just waiting to see Coldplay. These days they might have the self-assured, stadium-worthy new songs and the odd celebrity mate - comedian Simon Pegg of 'Spaced' played harmonica on 'Don't Panic' - but it's the tireless grace and sincerity with which they appreciate all this that makes them endearing.
Fans were out in force at the V-Festival (pictured), and enjoyed the brief bouts of sunlight. During Coldplay's performance of Everything's Not Lost Chris sung excerpts of Travis's "Why does it always rain on me?" in tribute to all the fans who stayed with them in the pouring rain whilst other "music fans" got scared of a bit of rainwater and went to see Kylie Minogue of all people, indoors in the JJB tent. They missed a treat, since everybody got involved, even the crowd.... and when you listen to Chris egging them on it makes you think to yourself Chris is right, "I dont care if its pissing down on me, as long as I get to sing this song." Now if that doesn't pick you off the floor, nothing will.

Chris Martin interview with Nick Jackson (Virgin Radio @ V2001)
Nick - Chris from Coldplay's here with us. Hi Chris.
Chris - Hi Nick, how ya doin...
Nick - Fine thankyou, welcome to the V-tent, you've been extremely busy - you're only just back from Australia?
Chris - Yeah yeah, on Tuesday we got back.
Nick - How long were you out in Australia for?
Chris - We were there for 2-3 weeks, before that we were in America for 3 months.
Nick - Have you guys had time to stop and think, it seems you've gone from one thing to another?
Chris - Everytime I stop, after about a day I start to try and write songs and then want to go on tour again, because it's my favourite thing to do.
Nick - So what's next then? What does the immediate future hold?
Chris - I've got to go to the loo.
Nick - Okay! It's by the bar!
Chris - After that we're going to do a gig (Slain Castle) and then do some more touring. Were playing with U2 in Dublin, thats going to be amazing. Not sure about the running order though!
Nick - What was the reaction like when you got the phone call asking you about that gig?
Chris - It was amazing, what can I say! I met Bono the other day, and he said, (Irish accent) "You know, Dublin's gonna be great", and I though this is great, how could I ever moan about what I do!
Nick - You had vocal problems earlier on in the year..?
Chris - Yeah, I have a singing teacher now, and I treat myself like Cher, so I take GOOD care you know!
Nick - Now, Parachutes... or as you put it at the Brixton Academy.. that album that's too old to mention.. obviously a massive success, bigger than you could have hoped for?
Chris - Over 200 copies sold!
Nick - A few more than that! What about things for the follow up.. how's that all shaping up?
Chris - Ok.. we have a lot of songs and worked on a lot of songs, and were going to this big studio in London on October 4th. Were going to start recording and hopefully have it (the album) finished by Christmas.
Nick - Any tracks we should be looking out for?
Chris - Nope. Its all rubbish.
