Who are Margate Football Club?
Margate compete in the Southern Division of the Dr Martens (Southern) League. They celebrated their centenary season in 1996-97. They have a pestigeous history including famous F.A.Cup matches but in recent years have slipped into mid-table mediocrity. This was halted last season and afre still enjoying an upturn in fortune. See Club Info fore more details.

Are they any good?
Despite being the eternal pessimist as far as Margate are concerned the answer now is yes. After many years of repeated failure the appointment of Chris Kinnear as manager backed with the high-profile sponsorship of Link Music Margate have had their best Legaue Campaign since 1984-85 and their best cup run since 1972. So far this season they have reached the First Round of the F.A.Cup (losing 2-1 at home to Fulham live on Sky), have knocked the holders, Woking, out of the F.A.Trophy at Wokings impressive Kingfield in front of 2500 baying home fans, have reached the semi-finasl of the Kent Senior Cup and the Dr Martens(Southern League) Cup. This has seen them fall behind with their League programme but they are still in a fairly good position to launch a promotion bid.

Have they got any 'names' playing for them?
Not as such. In recent years we have had names such as Mike Flanagan and Tommy Taylor who had top flight experience as well as many who had Football League experience, particularly with Gillingham. Some of our present players have Football League experience, four of them travelled with Gravesend to Aston Villa in the F.A. Cup a couple of years back and the manager, Chris Kinnear is one of the most respected in non-league football. He took Dover from the bottom of the Southern League to the brink of the Football League in just a few seasons back in the early 1990's.

Where do they play?
At they moment it is Hartsdown Park. Its ski-slope pitch is infamous in the non-league pyramid. The once impressive ground has now fallen behind many of its counterparts and has become run-down. There has been talk for several years of moving to a new stadium (possibly shared with Kent League neighbours Ramsgate) and despite the council turning down many plans, hope springs eternal.

Do they have a fanzine?
DO THEY! The extremely excellent 'On The Wagon' is published as and when the editorial team get around to it. Priced at 80p you can make enquiries at [email protected].

Do they have any famous fans?
If you asked this question you obviously did not pick up a tabloid during mid-November. Leading up to our live F.A.Cup tie with Fulham the National press was plastered with articles about Buster Bloodvessel, whose band Bad Manners are signed to club sponsors Link Music. Another regular visitor is legendary musician Judge Dread. Up until last season we had to find celebrity lookalikes amongst our sparse crowd. These included, Jimmy Greaves, Donald Sutherland and Foggy from 'Last of the Summer Wine'
