CAPRICORNIA TESTS LIONS

A Capricornia Invitational team provided strong opposition for the touring English Schoolboys Rugby League Junior Lions' in Rockhampton on Monday night, 19 July.

The local side comprised the bulk of the impressive Capricornia outfit which won this year's Under 15 secondary schools' state championships, plus about four Under 16 players.

It's an old cliche, but the game was much closer than the 16-4 score indicates. Capricornia scored first then held out the opposition until right on half time, when the visitors levelled at 4-4.

The Lions went to a 10-4 lead after the break, and this looked like being the final result, until they repeated their first-half effort and scored in the dying moments, for the final 16-4 scoreline.

The Junior Lions conclude their six-match tour of South-East Queensland with games against regional school sides at Bundaberg (22 July) and Redcliffe (25 July).
