Jorge Valdano was appointed new General Sporting Manager on 4th of September.

Valdano previously played and coached Real Madrid. On 16 July 1984 he signed with Real Madrid and played in three successful season with the club, but then had to retire at the age of 32 due to hepatitis B. He first started his managerial career with Real Madrid's B-team, then moved to Tenerife with great success getting the club into the UEFA cup for the first time in its history after saving the club from relegations the year before. In the season 1994/95 he joined Real Madrid and lead them to the Primera League title as well as giving a first team debut to a young player under the name of Raul (then 17 year old). On 21th of January 1996 after a defeat against Rayo Vallecano Valdano got fired by the club in good old Real Madrid fashion. He then joined Valencia for 2 seasons, for so to concentrate on business and being a commentator.
