Aralis' "stained glass" boxes

"This is a very inexpensive method to spruce up any storage boxes you may have lying around the house. The wooden wine box  was my first project and a cardboard chest of drawers I got at Walmart was the second.
Start with whatever box you want to use. Paint it all black. I used cheap, flat acrylic paint (Apple Barrel, works well and it's     under a dollar per bottle). Next I outline my stencil with a light colored pencil. I have a couple of stained glass books that I used to make stencils out of, but you can also download some free ones from the
Internet. There's a lot of Victorian or Art Nouveau stuff that will look quite gothic, or you could go for the seasonal stuff and see if you can find any good Halloween ones
(I haven't found any yet).
Now you are ready to fill in the stencil with glitter paint. My favorite one is  made by Crayola (it's usually in the kid's craft section).  The best thing about
it is that when the base dries it disappears completely instead of some glitter glues where you see the glitter floating in the dried up glue. Make sure you let the glitter paint/glue dry completely.
Now all you have left to do is seal it with some gloss. It secures the glitter a little more and it makes the black "blacker"
Those are the basic steps, and then for you can always get some extras for each individual project. For the wine box I made a handle out of some pretty gold and burgundy cord. For the chest I just painted some of the knobs it came with matching glitter, but I plan to change them as soon as I find some nice ones."
