My Land Rover (a 109" PUP) was used as a break
down recovery vehicle before I bought it. I fitted a canopy and had it re-sprayed after I
bought it, effectively making it into a 109" three door station wagon.
Here follows links to pages describing a couple
of "enhancements" already made to it.
Rear Spare Wheel Carrier.
Rear Seats.
Fitting of Aluminium Tread Plate on the Wings/Fenders.
Fitting of sliding windows at rear.
Suspension upgrade.
Replacing halfshaft and centre diff portion.
Here follows a "to do list"
False bottom/floor.
I bought a sheet of tread plate to fit on
the wings of the Land Rover. I had no choice but to buy a 1 250mm X 2500mm sheet so I had
a lot of Aluminium left over after the section on the wings were cut and fitted. I decided
to make a "second" bottom where a lot of equipment can be stored and people can
still sit on the benches without having to dodge the equipment.
The "floor" will be exactly the
same height as the metal benches on the sides and the one side hinges on the metal bench
where the other side just clips onto the metal bench. I will effectively be making a huge
"toolbox" with a lid.
Roof insulation
Plan:
As I often go to Mozambique
on diving trips and I still plan to go further north into Africa. I needed the vehicle to
be a bit cooler inside. The bare metal above me were at times like an oven plate and it
was decided to put a "ceiling" inside the roof. After much deliberation and lots
of ideas from my friends it was suggested by one friend to fit a thin sheet of polystyrene
on the inside of the roof. Two 15mm X 1800mm X 650mm sections will be bought and I will
fix it with double sided tape to the roof. The Landy then needs to be taken to an
upholstery place to fit some covering over the polystyrene. As soon as this is done some
pictures will be posted.
Aluminium Roof rack
Still to make.
