Georgia. Residence # 472 showed Morgan Fields (33), Frances (32), William (10),
Thomas (8), Jesse (7), Susan (6), James (4), Anderson (7/12). Morgan was born
in North Carolina, everyone else was born in Georgia. He served in the military
between 1861 and 1865 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He was in the C.S A. with
Comapny 'E', 8th Infantry, State Guards. They were known as the "Gwinnett
Greys." He appeared on the census on 22 Sep 1870 in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

(5975) He was buried after 14 Oct 1886 in Hog Mountain Baptist Church
in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Morgan lived less than 60 years (rather short for
the 1800's) and died while both his parents were still alive. He is said to
be buried in an unmarked grave.
In 1832 Morgan Fields' parents were living in Wilkes County, North Carolina.
By 1835 they had relocated to Georgia.
Morgan served in the Confederate States of America with Company E, 8th INF, State
Guards, known as the "Gwinnett Greys."
In June 1880 M. Fields was chosen as part of a committee to get people to help
repair the church. Apparently the church was too badly damaged because in July
1880 M. Fields was appointed as part of a building committee assigned to build
a new church building. This was apparently Morgan Fields. His son, W. L. Fields
was also named to both these committees. The building constructed at that time
remained for over 80 years before being replaced in 1961 by a new brick building.
Parents: Thomas FIELDS and
Susanna HUMPHREY.He was married to Parthenia Frances
TAYLOR on 9 Sep 1850 in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
(5976) The marriage record shows Morgan Fields and Frances P. Taylor.
She is listed as Parthenia on census records. It is not known if her name was
Frances Parthenia or Parthenia Frances Taylor. The name Frances P. Taylor was
used on the marriage license. Children were: William
L. FIELDS, Thomas W. FIELDS,
Jesse FIELDS, Susan Frances FIELDS,
James W. FIELDS, Anderson Pinkney FIELDS,

Morgan
FIELDS was born about 1796 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He was a fortunate
draw on the land lottery in 1821 in Georgia. The name Morgan Fields appeared
twice as a fortunate draw in the fourth, or 1821 Georgia Land Lottery which was
held May 15, 1821. To be eligible for the lottery he had to be a resident of
Georgia by May 15, 1818. To be eligible for two draws he had to be a veteran
of a war or a married man, with wife and/ or minor son under 18 years of age
or an unmarried daughter. He was too young to be a veteran of any of the wars.
He was listed as a resident of Gwinnett County, Georgia. He drew land in Penleys
militia district, lot 51, section 9 in Houston County, Georgia and Penleys militia
district, lot 79, section 16 in Dooly County, Georgia. He appeared on the census
on 13 Sep 1850 in Cobb County, Georgia. Roswell district (page 103), residence
# 199, family # 199 shows Morgan Fields (53), Catharine (51), Adaline (22), Catharine
(21), Wanett (20), Richard (18), Susan (15), Frances (13), Pinkney (11), Thomas
(9), and James (6). Morgan and Catharine born in North Carolina, all the children
were born in Georgia. He appeared on the census on 2 Jul 1860 in Alpharetta,
Milton County, Georgia. Residence # 330, family # 330 shows Morgan Fields (62),
Catherine Fields (60), and Susan Fields (24). He died before 1870 in Alpharetta,
Milton County, Georgia. The name Morgan Fields of Gwinnett County, Georgia
appeared twice in the 1821 Georgia land lottery. He drew land in 1) Houston
County, Penleys Militia District, Lot Lot 51, section 9 and 2) Dooly County,
Penleys Militia District, Lot 79, Section 16.
In order to be eligible for this lottery, Morgan had to be a Georgia resident
since before May 1818. In order to get two draws he had to be married with a
minor son or unmarried daughter.
Morgan apparently returned to Wilkes County, North Carolina to get married to
Catherine Humphrey on January 15, 1819. Their first son or daughter was born
before the 1821 land lottery. There were obviously older children of Morgan
and Catherine Humphrey Fields but these are the ones that are known from the
1850 census.
The names Morgan and Catherine Fields appear among the founding members of the
Island Ford Baptist Church formed in 1833. They later obtained their letter
of dismissal from Island Ford Baptist Church and joined Haw Creek Baptist Church
in Forsyth County, Georgia. They are listed as early members of Haw Creek Baptist
