In 1832 Morgan Fields' parents were living in Wilkes County, North Carolina. By 1835 they had relocated to Georgia.

Morgan served in the Confederate States of America with Company E, 8th INF, State Guards, known as the "Gwinnett Greys."

In June 1880 M. Fields was chosen as part of a committee to get people to help repair the church. Apparently the church was too badly damaged because in July 1880 M. Fields was appointed as part of a building committee assigned to build a new church building. This was apparently Morgan Fields. His son, W. L. Fields was also named to both these committees. The building constructed at that time remained for over 80 years before being replaced in 1961 by a new brick building.

To be eligible for the lottery he had to be a resident of Georgia by May 15, 1818. To be eligible for two draws he had to be a veteran of a war or a married man, with wife and/ or minor son under 18 years of age or an unmarried daughter. He was too young to be a veteran of any of the wars. He was listed as a resident of Gwinnett County, Georgia. He drew land in Penleys militia district, lot 51, section 9 in Houston County, Georgia and Penleys militia district, lot 79, section 16 in Dooly County, Georgia.
