Galaxy

This galaxy was missed by both Herschels, and was discovered by Leavenworth with the 26-inch refractor at the L. McCormick Observatory at Charlottesvile, Virginia. Details in Astron.J., vol 7, no. 146.

The RNGC notes that this is a 13.0 mag galaxy. Their coded description reads EON,SPN,BM.

Discovered in 1786 by William Herschel (H II-598) with an 18.7-inch f/13 speculum telescope. He called it "pB, pL, iR, vgmbM."

In the NGC it is noted as pB, S, vlE, vgmbM, * 12mag p.

Steve Coe, using a 17.5” f/4.5, notes: “Pretty faint, pretty small, round with a brighter middle at 135X.”

Discovered in 1787 by William Herschel (H II-702) "pF, pL, E np-sf, but nearly in the parallel, mbM, 1.5' long."

This galaxy appears on page 20 of "The Hubble Atlas of Galaxies" by Allan Sandage (1961, Washington, DC); Also: Cat.of South.Peculiar Gal.and Ass. Vol 2 (Arp&Madore, 1987) p18.8.
