THE SOUTH-WESTERN EDGE of the LMC just clips this chart.

FEATURED OBJECTS: NGC 1520, NGC 1777, ESO015-G008, NGC 1841.

NGC 1520
ESO032-SC005
RA 03:57:50
Dec -76°47.7'
Open cluster

h: "a poor cluster of about a dozen stars 9..12th mag within a space of about 5'."

Lindsay, E.M. (1964?) “Some NGC objects in the Large Magellanic Cloud”, IAJ, 6, 286-289. “Not found. Centred on CPD -77°154. Star distribution seems normal.”

The RNGC (Sulentic and Tifft 1973) notes that this is a nonexistent object. Their coded description reads NF LINDSAY. The ESO survey classified it as an open cluster, ESO032-SC005.

11x80: “A small, faint star and one or two more 9th mag stars.” (seeing 3, transparency 3, sky darkness 4, lim.mag. at south pole 6.0 (naked eye), 10.7 (binoculars)) [AS]

NGC 1777
ESO033-SC001
RA 04:55:46
Dec -74°17.1'
Globular cluster

h: "eF, E, attached to and following a double star [of 9th magnitude]."

Shapley and Lindsay ("A Catalogue of Clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud", Irish Astronomical Journal, Vol. 6, 1963) give a diameter of 1.7' and remark "circular, condensed centre, outer resolved."

ESO015-G008

RA 04:07:12
Dec -82°17.0'
Galaxy

NGC 1841
GCL-8, ESO004-SC015
RA 04:45:00
Dec -84°00.0'
Globular cluster

h: "pF, L, irregularly round, vgbM, resolvable, 3' diameter."

Van den Bergh and Hagen ("UBV photometry of star clusters in the Magellanic Clouds", Astronomical Journal, Vol. 73, 1968) find that this is an old cluster with B-V = 1.7.

The RNGC notes that this is a 12.0 mag globular cluster.
