Myths ,Deception and Confusion

The MDC board is being created for the purpose of clearing up the myths, deception and confusion being posted by some others who appear to be deliberately creating the mayhem with deception causing confusion. It is hard to understand just what motivates people like this or what drives them to carry on as they do.

With the creation of this board, we can openly and clearly and in no uncertain terms, address their allegations, innuendoes and out and out fabrication of the truth, without causing the webadmin of the discribe boards any concerns.

At a later date, a discussion area will be provided here for Supporting members of Clan MacTavish and invited guests are welcome to participate if they wish however, other Clan related subjects are to carry on with the 'mactamhais.liquidweb.com Official Clan site. Webmaster, the poster above calling for suspensions or at least warnings has the distinction of causing trouble on every board he posts upon. Apparently he found his 'own level' on the Campbell board and the Fraser board. Alas, these two boards appear to be involved in a 'sit down' strike, which seems to be part of a power struggle. at least for this weekend and Mr Slocombe must feel quite alone just at the moment and therefore is attempting to carry the load by himself. I refer to his 'up up and away' routine on the Campbell board with stops along the way in many other boards too numerous to mention. Now we get to this forum, the Gunn forum. This board seems to draw ‘the “ as someone referred to them), wolves in sheeps clothing. That how they start out but say something contrary to what they wish youi to say, off comes the ‘wool’ and the snarling of teeth is evident.

I would not normally come onto this board or any other clan board but my own to get involved with this however, I have been invited to post here and, invited to support as I see fit. This I will do. I have never been accused of not telling it as I see it and, I will not change that format now.

For the past three years the name MacTavish has been under constant attack by a group of people associated with the Campbell and Fraser boards. They’re reasoning, I can only assume that the people from the Campbell board had something to do with the re-birth on the Clan MacTavish which contradicted the Campbell version of MacTavish being a sept or a sub-clan of the clan Campbell. If this was the basis of their anguish, that should have been taken up with the Court of the Lord Lyon, not with me on these forums. I am a peaceful man but I am human and when attacked I will defend. As a Chief of a Highland Clan, I am expected to defend, it is my obligation otherwise I would not be worthy of being called a Chief.

In the case of the Fraser involvement, this is a much more personal issue. I met the moderator of the Fraser board and his wife Marie in 1992 and learned first hand what they were about and how they operate. I had occasion to contact Mr Fraser a number of months later when I learned of a conversation he had with a Scottish businessman who I visited while in Glasgow and was informed of Mr Fraser’s comment in regards to myself.. Upon my return to Canada, I phoned Mr Fraser and asked for an explanation. I told Mr Fraser that as far as I was concerned, he is nothing but a ‘legend in his owns mind’. I said it then and I say it today. One only has to ask anyone who knows Mr Fraser especially Fraser’s who know Mr Fraser. Seeing this is a personal thing, it does not belong on these boards, I just wanted to explain the involvement of the Fraser issue VS The MacTavish.

In the case of the first reason, this would naturally go against the grain of anyone who considers themselves as Scottish historians but do not have the ability to read then rewrite when they probably are limited to reading and copying only.

I agreed to serve as moderator of the GOTC Clan Fraser discussion board in July 2000, shortly after the new UBB system was introduced. Since that time, I have never been suspended, nor would I do anything that might cause such an action to even be considered. Contrary to popular belief, I have had no contact with the most recent owners of DISCscribe or their administrator, and have no knowledge of their plans for the GOTC site. I have carried on doing what I considered the boards were intended for - the exploration of Scottish history and culture.

In light of the apparent decision by the new owners of DISCscribe, as carried out by a phantom "Administrator" who appeared only once to reinstate the privileges of two suspended moderators before disappearing in a puff of smoke, I am no longer motivated to participate on the GOTC clan discussion boards.

I want to thank all of you for having taken the time to share your knowledge and experience by posting to the Clan Fraser board. I truly hope that it is not possible for a few individuals to destroy a forum that has the potential to bring together thousands of people to exchange views in constructive debate about their common Scottish heritage.

I apologize to any other "non-sustaining members" I may have missed, or whose posts may have been arbitrarily deleted.Since the GOTC discussion forums were converted to the UBB system in June 2000, I have enjoyed serving as the volunteer moderator for the Clan Fraser forum, and posting occasionally to some others, particularly the Guid Auld Scotch Drink forum. The opportunity to exchange information with such a diverse group of people has been educational, which I feel is one of the great potential strengths of this type of medium. Sadly, a very small element does not appreciate or share that view, and I need not elaborate further.In light of recent decisions by the current owners of GOTC, to whom I have expressed my disagreement, Marie and I no longer feel motivated to participate on these forums. Fraser board ‘pleading’ with them to return else the Fraser forum will be no more. My goodness, as if the any of these forums exist ‘only for the sake of one’. I have it on very good authority that a Fraser Commissioner in the USA is very close to stepping in and be moderator of the GOTC (now with it’s American ownership). This gentleman would have the backing of the High Commissioner USA. So whether Dugald MacTavish, Stephanie Scott, TA Bruce, Lin Robinson, John Fairbairn or, W. Neil Fraser are here or not, the forums will not die. We see that in the case of this Gunn board. For his own reasons, Lin Robinson stepped down, the board is still operating. In the case of Mr Fraser and Marie, I think you will in a day or so see Mr Fraser return to the Fraser forum with something like this. “Due to an overwhelming amount of E-mails asking us to return, we feel it would be improper for us to let so many people down, and for that purpose, we have decided to try again” etc etc etc.

Mr Slocombe, a correction please, You did not stop posting on the MacTavish forum because you were asked to by the Webmaster. You stopped posting due to the fact t hat we deleted every post for the last month that you attempted to post on the MacTavish forum BEFORE you were told by the Webadmin and the moderator of the Campbell forum, that the conditions had changed.

Mr Slocombe another question, don’t you have any pride? Why do you persist when you know you are not wanted? You are a troublemaker that has been proven time and time again. It seems you thrive on it.

Last but not least, Gabriele, your comment re: “Those small groups do move fast”. I like to think of young David and his sling. Small by comparison of his adversary but with the ‘right’ on his side, he was victorious.

In light of W. Neil Fraser's recent announcement on the Fraser discussion board, which states in part: "In light of recent decisions by the current owners of GOTC, to whom I have expressed my disagreement, Marie and I no longer feel motivated to participate on these forums", I would like to recommend a new moderator of this forum for your consideration.

I have had the privilege of knowing Mr. Fraser for several years now and I can tell you that he is a man of integrity and a credit to his society. I am certain that he would make for a great moderator if given the opportunity.

Blake, I hope you will forgive this bit of shameless publicity and I also hope that you will consider accepting the job of moderator should it be offered to you. I know you and I know W. Neil Fraser - you would certainly be a breath of fresh air!

In all, there are 5 people who have in the past ===day's, posted goodbye speeches and one Farewell speech. on the GOTC forums. two were moderators.All stating the reason is due to some people giving them a hard time.

These people named from the Campbell forum and the Fraser forum have attacked Robert Gunn and his Mother Nancy MacCorkill on this Gunn board for two reasons that I can think of. 1. They turn out wonderful articles on Scottish culture and history which perhaps overshadows their efforts. 2. They post and support Dugald MacTavish of Dunardry. (I suppose this is the price you pay for supporting the MacTavish).
