The Fifth Element

A colourful vision of a spectacular future world. Besson works his magic once again doing much of the camera work in the pivotal scenes himself. People have argued that this film has no plot, and Besson admitted to not having a story, but merely a concept in mind when he began the project. In my opinion, when the production design, effects, stunts, action sequences and cameos are all this good, no one cares about the story unless they're determined to find a flaw.

  • The story:
A thing of pure evil threatens earth in the year 2253. It is a ancient evil, which can only be stopped using an ancient alien weapon which channels the four elements (Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water) through the fifth element- a perfect being. This perfect being (Milla Jovovich) falls through the roof of Korben Dallas' (Bruce Willis) flying taxicab, drawing him into the battle for earth's future. To use the weapon, he must find four magical stones and place them in sequence in an Egyptian temple. But one thing stands in his way - an evil arms dealer by the name of Jean Baptiste Emmanuelle Zorg (Gary Oldman)
