Inspiration on the Web

other pearls of wisdom from the Party Mistress

The Peacock Syndrome

I read a very interesting article about men and fancy dress parties. It pointed out that until the Victorian era, men were just as flamboyant dressers as women. Think back to the gorgeous lace and ruffles of the Goergian era, the stockings of Elizabethan England etc. Now men are confined to splashing out in colour for their ties or waistcoats.

Therefore when the opportunity avails itself, there are some men who will put a real effort into dressing up and alot of guys love dressing in drag. If you're a girl reading this, please indulge them. If nothing else it gives them a real insight into how we have to cope with carrying keys and money while wearing the male equivalent of next to nothing!

Play dough

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cups water
  • food colouring (optional)

Measure the ingredients, and add food colouring to the water if you choose. Mix the ingredients in a bowl. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it becomes stiff. When it cools, it's ready to use! You can storeit in an airtight container. Needs no refrigeration.
