Asperger's Disorder

Asperger's Disorder is a social impairment disorder which can look a bit like Autism. There are differences, however, one being that it tends to have a later onset than Autism does. It is usually most notable when a child reaches preschool or school age, depending upon whether social or physical symptoms are more noted.

Though there is limited information available on Asperger's Disorder, it seems to be more prevalent in males, tends to run in families, and social impairments appear to last through the individual's lifetime.

Treatment of Asperger's Disorder may include treatment of other general medical conditions that sometimes accompany this disorder. Your child's treatment should be a cooperative effort between you, your child, and your child's psychotherapist and doctor or psychiatrist.
