Welcome to HouseTreePerson where you will find information about common childhood mental health issues as well as the ability to get specific advice from a licensed mental health professional.

The information provided by the licensed counselor through this site is intended to be used by parents to educate them on what may be affecting their child's emotional state and to offer suggestions on how to remedy the problems their child is experiencing. Each link on this page will take you to information about the named disorder. There will also be a brief discussion of treatments used for each specific problem. More detailed information can be obtained by submitting an advice request to HouseTreePerson.

Diagnosis of children is especially sensitive and should be done by a professional who deals specifically with childhood disorders. Children have much more limited experiences than adults do. This makes it more difficult for them to explain what is bothering them. Due to this, children can be easily misdiagnosed if the professional assessing them is not trained properly. Just as you would want a cardiologist for a heart problem, be certain the psychotherapist or psychiatrist you take your child to specializes in children. And, if after the first visit or two, you or your child are not comfortable with that professional, go with your instincts as a parent and find another professional in your area.

Many times, what your child is exhibiting may not fit into any of the diagnosable categories. If you have any additional questions or if you are just looking for ways to deal with a specific situation with your child or family, you are welcome to submit your detailed question to be answered by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
