There are links to FedWorld, NASA, GLOBE, and the Library of Congress, so that you can access Federal departments and agencies, as well as keep informed of important legislation currently pending before Congress concerning animal species and their habitat. Contact your State and Federal Senators and Representatives directly from this website about the following issues: **The effort of salt mining companies in Baja, California to turn a large bay into another salt mine. This bay is used by whales to spawn. Obliterating this bay will cause the whales to have to give birth in the ocean, risking death of the newborn whales by disease and sharks.*** California Legislators need to know how you feel about this issue. **L.E.A.F. is trying to get a repeal of the North Carolina, USA law that allows landowners to shoot red wolves without extreme provocation. The red wolf is being reintroduced into North Carolina and on Bull's Island, South Carolina, since being declared extinct in the wild. There are currently two active reintroduction programs in North Carolina.** Tell the North Carolina Legislators what you think about this law. **The halting of the legislative effort in Alaska, USA to make new laws concerning the eradication of gray wolves by neutering alpha males and opening up more areas where the slaughtering of entire packs at a time is allowed. Also, the repeal of the current wolf killing laws. These laws are proposed to allow for more recreational hunting in areas that are occupied by gray wolves.** The Alaska Legislators need your comments about saving wolves soon! Old, but still relevant issues: **Years ago, Federal legislation was introduced to allow US companies' pollution audits (which they do themselves and are public information) to be private and non-accessible to the average citizen. The bills would also allow immunity from prosecution for violations found during audits. We are researching this issue and suggest emailing your Representatives and Senators to let them know that these audits must remain open to the public and violations for pollution must be stopped! Feel free to enter information concerning these or other animal issues in the space provided at the bottom of this page. The above Congressional addresses were obtained from the U.S. House of Representatives web site, the U.S. Senate web site, and the Thomas site listed below. Access Thomas, where you can search through the full text of legislation and the Congressional Record, check the status of any particular bill, and get the inside look at new legislation. FedWorld is where you can access United States Federal agencies and departments. Visit the Library of Congress to search it's contents. GLOBE, the Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment, offers students a chance to help scientists around the world. Any school with a computer and modem can join, and can use the program to access images created from the work of students worldwide.
