Pinelands High SchoolAmong South Africa's top 100 schools (Latest Sunday Times Schools Survey) Pinelands High School enjoys an enviable reputation as an outstanding Educational Institution within the community it serves and much further afield. Pinelands High School has been associated with quality since the day that Mr Jack Kent, the founding principal, opened the doors in 1952. The school is situated in the heart of Pinelands with fine grounds and a magnificent view of Devil's Peak. Although we are largely a community school, we have pupils from further a field. We pride ourselves on our record of excellence; our concern for the needs of the individual; and our endeavour to instill in our pupils the values and skills that will equip them to become thinking, capable, balanced adults ready to cope with the demands of life and the changing employment market.

The school is meeting the challenge of a changing education system with creativity and enthusiasm. By means of the Peer Counselling System we are trying to ensure that the concern for the individual is not lost as pupil teacher ratios increase. As far as leadership training is concerned Pinelands is bounds ahead of other schools. Through the Leadership Quality Circle a widely diverse and democratic leadership structure has evolved, involving matrics as Councillors, Peer Helpers and Custodians, and learners from Grades 10 to 12 as Quality Circle Representatives. As we are beginning to implement co-operative learning in larger classes, pupils are starting to take responsibility for their own and one anothers' learning, attributes which will be invaluable when they enter adult society. Cross-curricular studies and the Grade 11 Job Shadow Project provide education beyond the classroom experience. By means of the Quality Circles we have broadened the management base of the school to involve not only staff, but also parents and pupils in the decision-making process. Pinelands High is proud to be one of the first non-independent schools to instigate a GAP Student Programme. The School also continues to host exchange students from overseas and our pupils continue to participate in exchange programmes in other countries. The School has a proud record of serving the wider community. The popular Continuing Education Programme, launched in 1987, coordinated by staff and run by past-parents, has provided for growth and stimulation for people from all over the Peninsula. Our facilities, especially the sports and assembly halls, are regularly used by members of the public. We also boast a thriving Past Pupils' Association. We are planning for the future, confident that Pinelands High School has a significant role to play in education. Contact Information
