Effects of caffeine on the body
Besides the effects on the digestive system, coffee and tea reduce the body's absorption of certain nutrients. The duplication of DNA is a central process in the reproduction of cells and  organisms. Caffeine, because of its similarity to needed parts of the genetic code, can interfere with this process as well as causing problems in the cell's reproduction. This may result in tumors, cancers, and in genetic defects.

The reason this information is valuable to our project is because it states that the caffeine has an effect on cell reproduction and may cause genetic defects which would effect the planarian's regeneration outcome.
