Platyhelminthes
The flatworms, or Platyhelminthes, are bilaterally symmetrical metazoans with three tissue layers but no body cavity. Flatworms are complex animals with elaborate reproductive systems. The three classes are the free-living flatworms, flukes, and tapeworms.

The free-living flatworms belong to the class Turbellaria. The body is cylindrical in the small species, dorsoventrally flattened in the large Turbellarians are hermaphrodite with internal fertilization meaning they asexually reproduce. Dugesia is easily cultured, is easily found in freshwater, large, available, and The brown planarian, Dugesia tigrina, and similar triclad turbellarian species are available alive from biological supply houses or may be collected locally.

This information on different types of planarian helps us pick the species that would best fit our experiment. (Brown Planaria)
