Pub of the Month - November
RED LION, GREAT CHATWELL
The Red Lion at Great Chatwell may be difficult to find, but it is well worth seeking out. Six real ales are always on offer at the remote pub.
Everards Beacon and Tiger Bitters from Leicester, Draught Bass and Worthington Bitter are the four regular ales. The two guest beers often include one from a small local brewer, such as Slaters.
A good range of freshly cooked food is available throughout opening hours and there is an older children's menu as well as the usual children's menu.
The family-friendly pub also has a spacious garden and well maintained play area
Once one of the most easterly Wem Brewery pubs, the Red Lion was bought by Mick and Paula Smith in 1990. Mick was originally a builder, and after refurbishing the pub he decided to run it himself rather than sell it. The present bar was formed from the previous bar and snug, with the new lounge and games room being an extension
The Red Lion is open from 6pm on weekdays and from noon onwards on Saturday and Sunday. It is situated at 0.S. grid reference 792143 and is four miles south-east of Newport and a mile east of the A4l.
