Melbourne was founded in 1835 by John Batman who bought the land from the local Aborigines who ruled the land centuries ago for some trinkets. It was named after the British Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne in 1837. Behind Sydney, Melbourne is Australia’s second largest and most populous city and is the financial capital of Australia. Melbourne is hot from November, all the way to February. In fact, Melbourne suffers from one of the highest rates of sunburn in the world. Melbourne also have very mild winters.

My sources tell me that in 1994, Melbourne was voted the world's most livable city and the least polluted for a city of its size.

It has numerous public parks and gardens such as the Flagstaff Gardens and the Treasury Gardens. Like all the Australian cities I've visited, Melbourne is safe city with a very low crime rate. These factors may be why people from all walks of life migrated to this city to make its multiracial identity and now has a population of about 3.2 million.

The many trams in Melbourne were a reminiscent of my visit to San Francisco when I was little. Of all of Australia, only Melbourne adopted them as part of its main public transportation system. These electric trams come in all kinds of colours and designs. However, they move kind of slow. Nevertheless, taking trams is a good way to travel around the city, especially when you're touring. These vehicles can take you to many parts of the city for a fairly inexpensive price. Tram-stops can even be found in the middle of a two-way street!
