The Mackinac Island Trip

Day One Day Two Day Three Day Four Day Five Day Six Day Seven

We finally made it to the island!  We spent most of the day on the tourist circuit including an eight mile bike ride.  It's an easy ride with not too many hills and lots of beautiful scenery.  Once the "daytime" tourists left, the island quieted down considerably.  Following a walk around town, we are back in the hotel room where we can hear the clip-clop of the horse drawn taxis moving around town.  This single paragraph does not begin to convey how much we enjoyed today.  Like the few pictures below are just a small sampling of the over 100 pictures we took today.  You have to visit to understand.

See you tomorrow.

Our Ferry

Our ferry arriving at the docks in Mackinaw City.

The Ferry's "speedometer"

In keeping with our speedometer theme... here is the RPM gauge from the ferry.  This is how they tell how fast they're going.  Do the math.  (Sorry, the full size picture got lost, but you get the idea).

King and Keith

The first thing we did was take a carriage tour around the island.  These were the horses pulling our carriage, King, on the left and Keith on the right.
Arch rock from above This is Arch Rock, a natural formation in the limestone.  Look at how clear the water is 150' below.

Arch rock from below

We took an eight mile bike ride around the perimeter of the island.  This is a view of Arch Rock from below.

Here we are at Fort Mackinac

Rifle demonstration

There was a antique rifle demonstration.  We were amazed at how loud the rifles were (much louder than the cannon demonstration later that day).
