The Mackinac Island Trip |
||
Day five offered up a few more obstacles. We left Mackinaw City about 11:30 AM and got into the Detroit area by around 4:00 PM. It took two hours to find a route to the southwest edge of the city and discover that the hotel we had made reservations at was quite a distance from Greenfield Village. Complicating this situation was the fact that the majority of the roadways in and around Detroit are not marked very well. Further, their highway system is very strange in a number of places. For example, on RT 24 if you want to go south, you need to go north and then make a u-turn in order to get headed in the right direction. Needless to say, this confused me! Anyway, we had problems finding a closer hotel room and after I cracked my shin on the dash (and drew blood) getting back in the car, we finally found a room at the Holiday Inn in Deerfield.
Only two pictures for today. More tomorrow from Greenfield Village (Henry Ford Museum).

| We were pretty tired following our adventure finding a hotel room. We reviewed the maps to make sure we hadn't made any wrong turns. | |
