Soignies 25 - 0
Home 12/9
First game of the season and a walkover. Only five opposition players turned up. After some mulling around it was decided to play a practice match by giving the Soignie lads (all backs) some of our forwards and having a ten a side match. Bad mistake as it turns out we lose Chaos for the season and several players tweak their hamstrings on the heavy pitch.
Kituro 0 - 53
Away 19/9
First away game against a very good side who demolish us at every attempt. Coach Nick Trantham has got his work cut out to rescue us from this debacle.
Blackstar 16 - 31
Home 3/10
Better effort than the previous week but still not quite there. Problems of discipline as we argue between ouselves.
Kituro (Belgium Cup) 0 - 29 Away 10/10
Much better effort than the league outing. Kituro turn up expecting a try-fest and go home all shook up.
Antwerp 17 - 27 Away 31/10
A game lost when winning would have been much easier. A bad start leaves a mountain to climb, unfortunately it's a big mountain.
Boitsfort 33 - 10 Home 7/11
It had been coming and today was the day. After sixty minutes Boitsfort lead by 10 points to 5. Then Shape step up a gear with their greater fitness and blast in 28 unanswered points. I think the word is "AWESOME"!!
Verviers (Plate ) 25 - 0 Home 14/11
A walkover as verviers fail to show up.
Standard Chaudfontaine 25 - 0 Away 21/11
Standard fold in the week leading up to the game. They are at least an hour from the nearest team in our league. Don't know why the Begians don't use regional leagues. It would make sense.
Soignies 15 -17 Away 28/11
Shock defeat considering the form of recent. Great opportunity try from Chalkie White after an up'n'under ends up ingoal and the opposition fullback teases the oncoming attackers by delaying the touchback, fatally. After this Shape have a nap for about 50 minutes and fall behind. In the last twenty they rally but to no avail. They are let down by some dodgy kicking from Dave Rose (0/3) and Lee Filson (0/1) who conspire to miss four kicks between them!
Kituro 19 - 17
Home 5/12
Shock of the Season!! Kituro take a 15 - 5 lead and get complacent. They get sloppy as Shape grow in strength and in the final five minutes concede two very well taken tries, with the final one converted. After the conversion the ref blows for time and congratulates Shape for beating the champions elect.
Racing Jet Brussels 54 - 10
Away 12/12
Well, it's getting rather easy now isn't it? A veritable romp against the division's strugglers. We're on fire now BABY!!
Racing Jet Brussels 25 - 0
Home 16/1
Another walkover as they bottle out from another beating.
Boitsfort 10 - 46 Away 23/1
Oh dear, mother complacency slips into the Shape ranks now and they lose a game they EXPECTED to win. Also an unwelcome return from that old bitch call dissent and it's time to argue with each other again it seems.
Dendermonde (Plate) Lost Away 30/1
NOOOOOO!!!! To view the write up for this one, just look at the second match of the season. The only difference was the scoreline wasn't so high.
Antwerp 27 - 0 5/3
This was a great win. Both sides seemed evenly matched but it was Shape that took their chances. A fifteen points to nil halftime lead (zero place kicks from three attempts)
gave them a comfortable cushion. The second stanza, maybe owing to the 58 minute first half, maybe due to fitness or maybe owing to the good defence of both sides was a hard fought affair and it took a superb cut-out pass from Dave Rose, straight out to winger Chalkie White and a just as good sidestep and low dive put Shape twenty points ahead. And that was the way it stayed until the final few minutes when the pick of the tries, covering sixty yards, was scored. Kev Sargent bust the gain line and made a super break. Just as he was tackled he offloaded a superb one handed pass to that man Dave Rose who then scooted the final thirty metres with adversares in tow, to score under the sticks. Lee Filson finally landed a kick to record 1/5 and the game was then played out.
Despite all the super rugby, this match WILL be remembered for that superb knock-on and teddy losing episode from Tony Fairs.
