What I do?
(I agree this is not very poetic, but hey, it takes a lot of effort to be original.)
The things I do for living and for intellectual stimulation (man does not live by bread alone) are many and often I do not have enough time to keep up with everything I indulge or used to indulge in. Nevertheless, my interest in them remains strong enough and I often return to them, as a child often returns to his favourite toy (and this case, there are many favourite toys of mine!). Currently I am engaged in these areas. Some of the things I would like to do are listed under future plans.
Currently I am pursuing
M.Phil course (that's intermediate between Master's and Ph.D.) at the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, Delhi (India). This course is supposed to train students interested in research in social sciences and introduces them to the methodology of research. If you wish to know more about the Delhi school of economics then click here. Of course you would like know more about the course and curriculum of this course. Rinoo Rajesh arrived here on this planet on February 8, 1975. Planet fall was achieved approximately around 0100 hours earth time. (Anybody can tell that I am a sci-fi fan). Life till the year 1992 was spent acquiring knowledge about the 'natives', who most of times were friendly enough, though they have this fantastic capacity for violence and self-destruction. But not all humans are vicious by nature, some do have greatness in them, but they are so few, so few. Oh, sorry, I forgot that this is supposed to be a brief and abridged biography of mine not disposition on the nature of human beings.
My early schooling was done at 'Shakula Public School' (no relation to Dracula!) near Krishna Nagar (Delhi). However, my parents moved from there to Vivek Vihar, where I was lucky enough to granted admission in the prestigious Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan's Mehta Vidyalaya. I passed out from this institution in 1992 from the Commerce Stream with the medal of highest performance in Geography. In the time between joining the college and leaving the school (summer holidays) I joined up the National science Centre for a preliminary computer course (those days we were using PCs, in the real sense, with only two drives to speak of) and then a small electronics course. When the admission fever caught on - I found that I had no taste for the usual and routine. I could have joined the 'common herd' and enrolled for the Bachelor of Commerce course, destined to become a chartered Accountant or something similar. But I was not interested in the mundane - I wanted to explore the world, what makes it go round (it isn't only money you know) and how thing work. You don't get that much time to do all this in the CA course. So I joined Geography in Kirori Mal College (it is one of the most prestigious institutions for Geography at Graduate Level in the University of Delhi). Three years there were like a breeze. I enjoyed every moment of it. I was very much impressed by Dr. Anu Kapur (now at the Delhi school of Economics) and her drive for perfection. She also happens to be a strict teacher and perhaps this is why I nicknamed her Hitler (an achievement for which I was crowned Mr. Geographer in the farewell party). After passing out from Kirori Mall, I sat for JNU's entrance test for higher studies (M.Phil) and secured 5th rank (all India). But JNU is a citadel of communists and I was never comfortable in that environment. So I left it and joined Delhi School of Economics, where I secured the 1st rank in the All India Entrance Test. This course is in progress and my research topic is "Linking Environment and Health Using GIS in the Trans-Yamuna Area" under the guidance of Prof. S K Aggarwal. Around the end of 1995, an opportunity came my way to join the GNIIT course at NIIT. I admit that I was impressed by their advertising campaign, but that was not the only reason why I joined. I had always been interested and fascinated by computers. I saw an opportunity to learn and explore this fascinating world and also be able to 'earn' something (well, we all have to eat, watch movies and add ever increasing number of peripherals to our computer systems, don't we?). It took me 3 years to get the hang of windows programming and develop skills in GIS also. Now with like-minded humans, I have launched a small company, which is, at present, dealing in GIS Data products, and will soon be diversifying into customized projects for Wintel Platform. Well that's it for now ..
