Strike Team Renegade has been operating in the Midwest for the last 1-1/2 years in a very low profile mode.  The standard joke is that we specialize in keeping the World Crime League out of bookstores.  While this is not entirely untrue, our focus is more proactive than most strike teams; we like to head things off before they get to the pass whenever possible.

Sadly, with the WCL strike on the Poplar Street Bridge in St. Louis in June 1998, it became necessary to shed our previous anonymity somewhat.  Sometimes, you want the other guys to know you're there just so they start watching their own behinds.

Strike Team Renegade is:

Agate: With a background in publishing and graphic design, it's hardly surprising that Agate, Lynx's long-time cohort and "twin sister" gets her name from a type measurement. Her primary responsibilities relate to public relations for the Institute, particularly ensuring that public documents like the monthly comic book are suitably accurate without being overly explicit.  Has a classically trained voice, but prefers to make most of her music the same way she does most of her designs -- on the computer. Known as a bibliophile and cat lover, her primary weapons are cat toys and books, largely since she has an excuse to have them at hand and because most people don't consider them weapons. Firmly believes that at her size (5 foot nothing), she needs all the equalizers she can get.

Draco: Only member of the strike team who admits to a military background. Believed to have served in the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield or Desert Storm, but debate about which is considerable. Strongly interested in things graphical, he possess an aptitude for finding offbeat, under-known software to use for his computer art. Still working on mastering the bagpipes at last report; security does not permit discussion of any connection this may or may not have with Stomp's current aversion to playing. Has been seen in a kilt on several occasions, and according to the ladies of the team, has the legs for it.

Kilroy: Former government employee cashiered from his intelligence agency position due to a disability suffered on the job, he returned to Japan to his old sensei for advice and spent significant time in a monastery recovering his balance mentally and physically.  Joined Team Banzai to research holographics after working for Oakley and is still prone to give those expensive sunglasses away to friends almost as an afterthought; he is probably the only man on the planet to routinely walk around with a half dozen or more pairs in his pockets. Reputed to have developed some manner of receive-only telepathy to compensate for his line-of-duty hearing loss, also reputed not to eavesdrop.  May actually have had at least partial hearing restored as the result of an experimental surgical procedure more recently.

Lynx: Quiet and reserved in public, with a talent for being rather in the background -- agreeable, but not especially noticeable. Comes from a largish family, which may explain her preference not to be the center of attention. Like New Jersey, she is good at making the connections others might miss, which she describes as "rather like being able to assemble the sky or ocean [as in a puzzle] and leaving the house or sailboat to others". Likes to have things she might need ready to hand, though she can usually find a particular object in her pockets quickly. More apt to be found keeping other people's instruments and amps in working order than to be seen playing in public, although she keeps medieval string instruments around to play for herself. Rumored to have worked on the sound board on occasion, although it's unclear whether this means she repairs them or sets the controls. Carries a rather battered backpack filled with "goodies" in the field. Her favorite weapon is a small stonebow (like a crossbow pistol, but throws rocks, marbles, small fireworks, etc.), but she's competent with others and in unarmed combat as well.

Replay: Intern with a wide range of interests and abilities, often known to spend extended periods in the field, Replay is fascinated by anything mechanical that flies, even if it isn't intended to (cars, boats, etc. in mid-air).  Strike Team communications chief by default, partly due to the fact that she's reputedly the chief instigator of its existence, partly due to her extensive command of language and dialect. Like most of the team, she is a self acknowledged bibliophile; unlike Agate, books are among her last choice when it comes to weapons, though she'll use whatever's at hand to defend herself or others. A known accent mimic, she possesses a near-phonographic memory and sufficient relative pitch to set up sound boards on her own before HKC concerts if necessary. She plays keyboards ranging from the thumb piano to synthesizer and is at least competent with the typewriter & computer varieties. Probably best known academically for her ethnomusicology studies in Brazil.

Pica: T-Bear's twin brother (through a freak of fate born years later and to a different mother) also takes his name from a type measurement. Agate's 6 ft. 3 in. husband prefers "Pica and Agate" to "Mutt and Jeff" for understandable reasons. His specialty is computer security and printing applications, particularly in making printing applications secure even at remote sites. Letting him work on the hardware is a bad plan, however; he burns his own fingers soldering -- as well as the fingers of anyone foolish enough to help him. Pica blows a mean clarinet, an instrument few have taken into the field of rock music (his friends go so far as to call him the "Ian Anderson of the clarinet"). His primary weapon, unsurprisingly, is the computer, but he is also reputed to be deadly with a slide rule.

Stomp: Strike Team information specialist, with duties including information requests, data manipulation, disinformation coordination, and network control for the team. A former percussionist, he is only member of the strike team who currently refuses to admit playing any kind of musical instrument, saying only that this is by popular acclimation after a bizarre accident involving a small bagpipe, an ice cream truck, and a Cessna 150.  His preferred weapon is a Colt .44-40 revolver, of which he says: "It's classy, its got style and if the bad guys get this far in the complex the pooch is sc*#@ed anyway."

T-Bear: Among his other duties, T-Bear is the current Team Banzai Jet Car crew chief, a position he took over when his predecessor Sam was killed by the Red Lectroids. For security reasons, and due to such advances as the Internet, he is seldom found at the Institute proper unless working directly on the Jet Car and its related projects in person; the majority of his supervisory and design duties can be performed from almost any field location. Known to have spent a good deal of time at racetracks in his youth, and at the Bonneville Salt Flats running and watching cars and in his words, "ALWAYS learning from them."  His observations of the Land Speed Record cars of Arfons, Breedlove, Noble and others have had some influence on the direction he's taking with the Banzai Jet Car.  Admits interests in Cars, Books, Cars, swords and swordplay, Cars, Quantum Physics (ask him about Quantum Ducks), Cars, most music, did we mention Cars? Heard on every Hong Kong Cavaliers album, but never seen on stage playing with them, as he is very much a studio guitarist and will only take the stage to deal with guitar problems for the rest of the band. While interested in various styles of swordplay, he's been know to bemoan the fact that he and Buckaroo have never managed to "play" in that particular sense. Proficient with most firearms but shares Stomp's affinity for revolvers, favoring a Smith and Wesson Model 686 .357 Magnum, about which he says, "My Daddy taught me that one shot should be one kill; I don't need all that firepower. Anyhow, revolvers have a certain 'style'." Prefers Coke to Pepsi and can sleep absolutely anywhere. Seems to have a thing for Lynx, which may explain him hooking up with Strike Team Renegade. He is also frequently mistaken for Pica, much to his eternal bewilderment; they look NOTHING alike.

Other members' information remains classified at this time, as sensitive operations remain ongoing.

Some of our friends operating elsewhere:
(send mail here if you want to be included)

ArcLight: Runs the electronic newsletter World Watch Online under the auspices of Mrs. Johnson. Also known as a generally genial guy, but someone you don't want looking over a gun barrel or across a knife blade at you.

Cameo: An Institute Resident seldom actually in residence on the Main Campus.  Favors unconventional tactics and weapons, and has been known to admit being "on the jazz" on several occasions.  Has little to no use for the concept of celebrity.  Much given to deflating Perfect Tommy's ego, not because it offends her but just because it's fun; unlike Ice Queen, she has been seen in public with Tommy in more than a few clubs.

Da Vinci: Operating in the KC Metro area doing architectural design for the Institute and other concerns.

AgTiger: Another KC Metro BBI with an eye for good scanners. He sent us the patches in the Special Contributions section of the Graphics Archives. Has also been known to hang out with the medievalist crowd on occasion.

Ms. Hero: Operating in Illinois doing engineering and attending classes. Her website contains links to most of the TABB cast, but was down when we last checked our links. Watch this space for updates.

Infinity: Works for an e-zine called, of all things, "32.5" -- you could visit it by clicking on his name if that link was still functional. We'll be checking on this one too through our other sources.
