The Music Scene

The nineties was a time of musical revolution. Grunge rock went mainstream in the early part of the decade with such bands as Nirvana and Pearl Jam that destroyed the hair bands of the eighties. At the same time, rap started on it's road to becoming a dominating force in American culture, as Public Enemy and other groups gained popularity.
As old styles of music died out, new ones were born and became public. Goth rock is an excellent example, along with Thrash/Speed metal and Gangster rap.The latter part of the nineties came with the appearance of boy bands and and alarming amount of pop music. (Editors note: Maybe this popularity could explain why I.Q.'s are declining...)
All this happened in a matter of a few years, and modern genres in 2001 are even more rapidly changing. One hit wonders are hitting the charts with great speed and falling off them even faster. Music is a staple of today's society, and will continue to be unless we find a higher level of expression... and let's face it! When is that ever gonna happen?

 What's hot, what's not?            <--VERY hot.
 I dunno. You tell me.
