Deathmatch Quake will aways be a favourite for all dedicated Quake palyers. Some people say that Quake deathmatch is better than Quake2 deathmatch, but then there are always those sad people who will ONLY play CTF (Capture The Flag). Theres nothing wrong with playing CTF, but there weeds is they nerver play DM. Personaly I enjoy CTF, but I also like Quake DM. There worlds best mag (PCG) has said that there was a booky thaking bets on weather Quake will ever lose top place on wireplay (with Q2 being second, I doubt it!).

Quake servers are one of those gifts from the new God (id). They let people for all over the world battle it out aginst each other, either by DM or CTF. While connected to the net all one has to do is type in: 'connect xxx.xxx.xx.x' or with the 1.06 patch 'connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:xxxxx'. For a list of quake CTF servers for the ThreeWave CTF Mod click HERE!

GameSpy is a handy utility that will look up a list of servers at sites like PIPO.COM and GAMEAHOLIC.COM etc. You can download GameSpy HERE! It also works with 'other' games.

MOD'S are our best friends! When id made Quake they made it with one thing in mind other than DM, it was QuakeC. QuakeC is a version of the programing language 'C' which has been used for the engine. Thus letting you (the average Quake player) make your own additions (or substractions) to Quake. There are two main types of MODS. There are Total Conversions and Partial Convertions. No need to explain as you seem to be clever enough as buy Quake. Oh, your from America! Well here you are then!

Total Conversions are addons for quake where the whole of quake has been changed. Most noticeably the levels, and monsters.
Partial Conversions are a different type of addon compeatly! They only change very small parts (or large parts) of Quake. Alot give you just diffent weapons and a moster. Maybe just a moster. Its only small changes. Some are only AI or moster strenth changes.

Levels are.. Well, Levels.. aren't they? There are hundreds of levels on the net not for just Quake but for 'other' games as well. One very anoying thing on levels created by dipsticks is that they have foating water!?!

Utilities are clutering up the net. There are hundreds (small in comparison to the amount of levels and mods), and 99% are rubish. Time to time you do come a cross a decent utill like QuakeOn or Pakie (sorry about the name!). These are do things like give you a menu of Quake options or edit .pak files (the files compression type that quake is stored in). The most used are Level Editors.

You can download everything said here and more at ftp://ftp.cdrom.com or on some of the endless mirror sites.
