Point of View Selecting the Best Viewpoint Of the key elements to writing, POV is the most clearly and easily defined. It is also, I think, one of the more difficult elements to master. Professor Novakovich gives a good lecture - a detailed discussion of 1st Person and 3rd Person POV, as well as brief comments on other much less common narrative viewpoints.

Exercise 2: Describe the following event in the third-person subjective POV: stealing a fake gold ring in a department store. Focus on the thief. Describe the same event in the third-person limited flexible POV. Again focusing on the thief. The latter POV should have both external narrated descriptions as well as internal character observations. (2 pages) |
