The Freeman Repository

On Line Newsletter

Volume 1 Issue 1 March 1998

Welcome to the first issue of "The Freeman Repository On Line Newsletter".

Let me begin this first issue with saying that I could not believe the response for this newsletter. The responses alone gave me an energy boost to sit down and to start pounding at the keyboard. Thank You to all.

I would like to thank the following people for their assistance is producing this issue of The Freeman Repository:

  • Cousin Bev Johnson for proof reading and testing of the links.
  • Diana Hanson, Accredited Genealogist for our Training Classes.

  • This issue begins with our selection of The Freeman Repository - Link of the Month. This site was selected for its outstanding presentation of family history and data and for its content on the surname FREEMAN. An award graphic and a "pat on the back" has been sent to the webmaster of the site. Recommendations for the award are accepted from everyone.

    The Freeman Repository
    Link of the Month
    March 1998

The featured book in the Book Review is English Duplicates of Lost Virginia Records. Each month we will describe a book that is available and what surname FREEMAN data you can expect to find within its pages. Along with the Book Review is also the CD-ROM Review which will review a CD-ROM that has been published which contains a multitude of books and material, note that these CD-ROM reviews are not "software" but more research material that is available. This months selection is The Complete Book of Emigrants, 1607-1776 & Emigrants in Bondage, 1614-1775.

Misplaced "Cousins" will be an article(s) submitted by readers looking for that "one link" that will open the doors to a flood of information and continued research. These articles will be more than the common "Looking for information on John Freeman from Nome, Alaska". The articles will have substance so that other readers can key off certain names, places, dates and a little history.

No matter how long you have been doing family history research you can never have enough training or education in order to assit you in that research. For those reasons the Training Resources section will describe some courses that are available on the internet for your utilization. These courses will truely be worthy of your time that it takes to browse their content and possible even "print" for future use.

The Software Review section this month will review a FREE software program that was designed to display your ancestors on the internet in linked HTML format. The software is called GED2WWW. The main purpose of this software is to produce "CONTACTS" with other researchers.

Do not let the title of Source Documents fool you. There is currenlty a big push on the Internet for the display of source documents for researchers to utilize. This section will review and inform you of where on the Internet you can find these sites. Our feature this month will have your "significant other" pulling your power cord out of the wall socket!

A surname FREEMAN newsletter would not be complete without an up-to-date listing of FREEMAN WEB LINKS. Here is the starting point for browsing the World Wide Web and seeing what other researchers have found and have cared enough to share with you. When you visit a site drop the Webmaster a note of thanks. NOTE: No web site is added to the Freeman Web Links pages without the permission of the link owner. I do not go around searching the web for links that contain Freeman data to just add to the list.

Providing there is enough space on the Internet this section of the newsletter is the Repository. Just as the name implies ORGINIAL SOURCE DOCUMENTS dealing with the surname FREEMAN.

Finishing up the newsletter will be some hints as what you can expect to find in the next issue. Check out the section Next Issue Preview.

As with any newsletter input from its readers is vital to its success. If you have any ideas for inclusion in the newsletter send your comments to The Editor
