I. Community Involvement
A. Volunteer programs for school
community service credit

C. Money donated to landlords/maintenance
crews to maintain the changes made. Comes from programs such as the Affordable
Housing Program (increases supply of affordable housing in the district).
D. Community members/volunteers
help to publicize our efforts.
E. This will be organized by October
1998, sooner if possible. Work will begin as soon as organization is complete
and funds are acquired.
II. Implementing Defensible Space
Programs
A. Changes layout of property to
prevent crime, esp. drugs/increase safety
1. clearly demarcated property with
fences/shrubs
2. removal of visual barriers
3. better lighting
4. clearly marked play areas easily
visible from windows.
5. barricade vacant alleys and prevent
cars from arriving undetected
6. keep houses close to street
7. remove long corridors, high shrubbery,
other hiding places
B. Cost-effective
1. fences are inexpensive compared
to other methods of protection
2. very effective methods, as proved
by implementation in Potomac Gardens neighborhood (DC) and Five Oaks (Dayton,
OH)
C. This will be implemented by January
1999, completed by July 2000
