Each night, when I close my eyes
Sleep quickly finds me
It gives rest to my tired body
and relief to my healing soul.

Throughout the night, I sleep
but my mind never rests
Memories are frequently revisited
with dreams of a warm and intimate touch.

From lifelong hopes, I walked away
‘twas the hardest thing I’ve ever done
For someone special, it was a gift of love
So why does my mind continue to dream?

Perhaps fate has returned to taunt me
with reminders of what I couldn’t keep.
Whether my dreams are pain or pleasure
That question’s answer, I am afraid to learn.
