As my birthday soon approaches
On my life, I pause to reflect
Where have I been and what do I seek?
With age, these discoveries seem less trivial.

‘tis a time to wish for anewed companionship
Too many nights and days have been shared
in the company of a companion that knows me well
That companion is known as loneliness.

This path that I have travelled
has both thrilled and made me blue
Devotion and love was what I offered
but my desired treasure,  I learned was priceless.

Let’s not cast blame for this failure
I was a willing party
I learned and I pray that I taught
I shall use those lessons to help me grow.

As I kiss you goodbye, my once desired treasure
for the heartache I inflicted, I beg you to forgive
I too, give the freedom that you need and seek
One day perhaps, a worthy suitor will claim thy treasure.
