Czech Corner
(Český roh)
Milena Jesenská (1896-1944)
Franz Kafka's great love, she was also a fascinating person
in her own right. Yes, this is also listed on the front page of my
site, but it also belongs here.
Božena Němcová (1820-1862)
This female Czech writer was a big influence on Kafka's The
Castle. If you don't believe me, check out the very interesting
comparisons between her major work, Babička (Granny), and The
Castle. Max Brod himself wrote an essay comparing the two works,
so see if you don't agree.
Czech Pronunciation Table
A little table so that you can actually understand what those
strange letters with the things on top mean. Please keep in mind
that my knowledge of Czech is sketchy, to say the least!
