Danny Wilson. Manager May 1994 - 6th July 1998.

From Sheffield Wednesday June 1993 - 6th July 1998 to Sheffield Wednesday as Manager.
Danny Wilson & Ashley Ward (25k) / Danny Wilson 1 (24k) / Danny Wilson 2 (8k) : A Glorious Leader. Wigan Lad, started at his home club and travelled to many clubs in his time including Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday. Was brought to the club for about 200,000 pounds in the summer of 1993 by then manager Viv Anderson. Played in Midfield. Went from villan to hero. Received the worst barracking of a Barnsley player I have ever witnessed while we were losing 1-0 away at Bromsgrove Rovers in the 3rd round of the FA cup in January 1994. Player of the season in the 1994-1995 season. Had to retired from playing due to an ankle injury. Wilson is god? He seems to have all the credentials. Performing the miracle of promotion! Managers "Manager of the Year Winner" 1996-1997.

Viv Anderson

Previous Job. Player with Sheffield Wednesday (Transferred) - May 1994 Resigned, to become the number 2 at Middlesborough with Brian Robson.
Best thing he did was to bring Danny Wilson with him from Wednesday although we didn't think so early on. He has proved to be a visionary. He was Barnsley's first and the country's second black manager. Top of Page

Mel Machin

Previous Job. Manchester City (Resigned)- April 1993 Resigned. Next Job Bournmouth.
Promised 1st division football in 3 years on his arrival, achieved it by having the football league rename the 2nd division the 1st when the premier league broke away. Top of Page

Alan Clarke

Had 2 Spels with the club. His first got us promotion out of the 4th Division to the 3rd. 2nd kept us in the second. Top of Page

Norman Hunter

Norman Hunter (15k) Always seems to get on Sky when they are at Oakwell. The last manager to get us promoted before Danny Wilson.
There was once a song on Calendar or Look North. Circa 1981, that went something like.
They come from Worsbourgh Dale and Swinton.
Every Year a new Division.
Stand up and take a bow Norman Hunter.
