GAME 1     Metro West vs South Coast

South Coast today scored their second win in two days to stay on track for the Consolation Cup, beating Metro West 12-6. Coast coach Ian Johnstone said it was a "gutsy effort" for his boys to pick themselves up after their 30-point loss to Capricornia on Thursday. Team manager and former North West coach Wayne Adams said the Coast boys had "aimed up", and "restored some pride".

Johnstone said five-eighth Daniel Shepherd stood out with his organising ability, that halfback Tory Hipperson "is a great organiser for his age", and that lock Jason Penny "did some classy things". Ocean Taunaletia, Alwyn Simpson and Jesse Tol-Pae Pae performed well for Metro West.

With two wins so far and a third likely tomorrow against the struggling North West side, South Coast are entitled to be confident of winning the Consolation Cup. However tomorrow's match will bring mixed feelings for Wayne Adams.

Prior to transferring from Richmond High to Benowa on the Gold Coast almost 12 months ago, he coached the North West 15-year team. He knows all too well the hardships faced by these remote regions - three weeks before his transfer he 'enjoyed' a bus trip of some 30 hours each way for the 15-year carnival at Kingaroy.

One suspects that Wayne, while dispensing the 'magic water' during tomorrow's encounter, will be unable to resist offering some words of encouragement to his former charges.     Wayne's North West Farewell

South Coast 12 (T Hammett, A McDonald tries; J Penny 2 goals) def Metro West 6 (M Chant try; A Simpson goal). Half time: South Coast 12-0. Player of match: Brett Mendham (South Coast).

GAME 2     Peninsula vs North West

Peninsula today showed glimpses of the form of which they are capable, scoring nine tries to defeat North West 46-10. North West coach Peter Wilson said it was "a great team effort" from his boys, despite the scoreline. He said they were able to match it with the strong Peninsula team for most of the game.

Wilson said special mention must go to North West No. 13 Lochlan Russell who, even though part of a beaten side, was awarded player-of-the-match. Thomas Williamson and Quinton Marshall also had strong games for North West. Best players in a victorious Peninsula outfit were Ashley Graham, Adrian Holder and Shaun Vidito.

Peninsula 46 (A Holder 2, G Sore 2, S Vidito, C Griffiths, W Nain, J Zangrande, A Graham tries; J Zangrande 3, A Holder, A Graham goals) def North West 10 (J Wills, L Horman tries; J Sturt goal).

GAME 3
Northern vs Metro North

Northern produced the form they should have shown two days ago to demolish Metro North 48-12 in today's minor semi finals. Winning coach Tony Tarnawski siad his players had responded to his plea and supported each other much better today. "Why not Thursday?" was Northern manager Kevin Butler's response to his team's belated show of force.

John Nash was back to his dashing best in his familiar halfback role, after spending most of the past two games at five-eighth. He and Trevor Bowman combined well to prove the deciding factor. Sam Faust also had a strong game for Northern up front.

Northern 48 (K Bire 2, P Dennis, J Nash, S Vella, S Faust, J Geaney, T Bowman, T Major tries; T Bowman 6 goals) def Metro North 12 (Z Barnes, J Watene tries; J Ashton 2 goals). Half time: 20-12. Player of match: Trevor Bowman (Northern).

GAME 4    South West vs Darling Downs

A philosophical coach Rod Peckett said the past two days had been "a learning experience" for his South West side. He said they had met two sides who were bigger and faster. Peckett said it was a good effort from his team who kept trying, but made too many mistakes. He said he was looking for an improved showing in their final game tomorrow.

Logan Hawkins, Wesley Murray and Michael Witt had strong games for Darling Downs.

Darling Downs 54 (A Fickling 3, M Witt 2, P Wuersching, L Reibelt, G McMillan, A Werth, L Hawkins, W Murray tries; M Witt 2, N Nixon, P Wuersching, B Townsing goals) def South West 6 (D Scottney try; C Yeates goal). Half time: 28-0. Player of match: Wesley Murray (Darling Downs)

GAME 5    Capricornia vs Wide Bay

Capricornia firmed as favourites for the major championship when they systematically lowered Wide Bay's colours 30-8 on Saturday night.

Wide Bay failed to convert three golden scoring chances into points after they were over the line. But Capricornia were simply too good. This was well demonstrated when Brett Seymour scored late in the game. Near the Wide Bay line he chipped over, dived forward and intercepted the ball in flight to score a brilliant individual try.

Close to full time Nathan Jensen scored a consolation try for Wide Bay, making amends for his failed grounding a few minutes earlier. But Capricornia deserved their win, and will meet Sunshine Coast in tomorrow's championship final.

Losing coach Tony Cush said his team "never died", and that "they were in their faces to the end". He had no complaints about Wide Bay's efforts against such a strong side.

Five-eighth Brett Seymour and second-rowers Daniel Hoad and Trent Biles were outstanding for Capricornia, while centres Luke Shatte and Milton Jannusch, and lock Antonio Kufusi, shone out for Wide Bay.

Capricornia 30 (A Cridland 3, W Gaukroger, J Alberts, B Seymour tries; B Seymour 2, C Bromilow goals) def Wide Bay 8 (L Shatte, N Jensen tries). Half time: Capricornia 14-4. Player of match: Ian Lacey (Capricornia).

GAME 6    Metro East vs Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast scored a scrambling 22-10 victory over Metro East and will meet Capricornia in the major championship final tomorrow. Sunshine Coast capitalised on Metro East errors for three of their tries and will need to lift their game against the home team, who were very impressive in the earlier encounter. Metro East will meet Wide Bay in the play-off for third and fourth.

Sunshine Coast 22 (J Shuttlewood, J Kelly, S Dalton, S Tuilaepa tries; C Watt 3 goals) def Metro East 10 (R Tola, N Brown tries; C Chapman goal). Half time: Sunshine Coast 10-4. Player of match: Marijan Harris (Sunshine Coast).
