Anything R/C or Not
About a month ago I was at Toys "R" Us { Don't ask why} and I saw a cool R/C monster truck there. Now I know it is a toy but the thing looked cool. It had tires bigger than a clodbuster's. I mean I'm talking front tractor size tires, well almost. The thing was as long as a small wagon. It had real shocks and all. It looked neat I don't know how much it cost though. It had to be slow yet powerful to handle those huge tires. It would be great for snow driving or maybe for moving some dirt around the yard. I wonder what size motor or motor's are on this thing. It would be great to get just to look at and show off. You might even be able to take it apart and take the motor's out for a project big truck or something. I know it's A toy but I thought I could talk about it here. Please E-mail we of what you think at [email protected] .
If you have a dremel tool and you are bored you can cut apart an old toy car. It can be very fun and educational. If it has light sometimes you can cut them out and hook up a 9 volt battery to them and you can do some night driving. I did this and it worked pretty good. I put the light under the body and it lighted up the body and a little around it. It looked very cool. Always be careful cutting plastic with a dremel tool because it can melt and burn you {trust me it can}. Some times you can even make a homemade snow plow with some tool and a little creativity. Learn from your mustakes and don't be afraid to try something new once and a while{like rebuilding the transmission or changing shocks and tires around if you have more than on car/truck}.
Here's my dremel tool with a flex shaft. Boy do I need to clean my workshop.
The other day I was thinking of how hot batteries get and I had a temp. gauge around. So I stuck it down the shotgun tubes of my battery by taking the end caps off first. Then I ran my truck and when I was done the temp. was 220+ degrees. Now that's really hot. That's hotter than my nitro engine got in my Max ST. I'm suprised the whole chassis doesn't just melt. Has anybody else tried this? If so please E-mail my and tell my how hot your batteries get.
If anybody here runs offroad in Maryland I would like you to email me. Maybe someone could start an offroad R/C Club if I get a big enough list of people for them. Does anybody know of any offroad tracks in MD? Is the track in waldorf,MD good? Now I know this is a question and I'm suppose to be giving the information to you guys but I can learn too once and a while. I know there is onroad racing at hobbytown USA once a week but I don't think I want to do that onroad stuff. I don't need to get an onroad car but I would have to get onroad tires and some other stuff to make my xxt"cr" or Max ST ready for onroad racing But if that's what I need to do to get into some racing that's what I'll do. Does anybody out there know how to start an R/C Club?
I have an R/C toy ATV and a sherman tank that are actually my fathers. They aren't fast but they are detailed and one of a kind. The tank can go just about anywhere you want it to because of the torque and the tracks and the ATV is great for indoor running on a rainy day. They are both very old and I think there really neat. These pictures aren't that great but they will have to do for now.
Now I Know this isn't R/C but here it is anyway. Does anybody have any interest in Baseball cards? I have a lot from when I was little and I think I want to sell some and get some money to buy some R/C stuff. I have many different kinds and a lot of them. I would sell them some how but I don't know how much there worth. I have some whole sets and some almost whole sets. If you can help please E-mail me. Also does anybody know how Ebay works? I know I ask to many question's but I do have them.
I think I'm going to race at hobbytownUSA but the fall season starts soon and I don't think I have what I need. I have a stock motor but I think I need a new one because the one I have lost the label and I think I need that. Plus a new stock motor wouldn't hurt either. I know I need some batteries that will last 5min. with the stock motor also. I need some other stuff to and when I came up with a list on towerhobbies.com it came out to $180+. Wow how will I ever be able to race.
I just got a Raytek temperature gun without the laser and I will give you the full review of this soon but so far it seems to get many different readings and my engine on my Max ST seem s to be 220+ on just a quarter tank of gas and I have it set rich so It may be the engine or it could be the temp. gun. Again I don't know if it's the gun but I will tell you all in time. But I can tell you the gun is a lot faster than the other temperature things I was using. I took the temperature gun back because it was kind of expensive and I didn't like it to much so I'm waiting for the new MIP temperature gauge to come out.
In this paragraph I would just like to tell you about what I think about the Traxxas T-maxx. Well first off I would say I am a duratrax fan and I never liked traxxas because my friend has a traxxas and I don't like it. But the T-maxx seems to be a different story. It has a lot of great hop-ups available and more are still coming. The T-maxx is big and fast for a .15 powered monster truck. I also like the reverse and the great suspension system. I think the T-maxx is great and if I could of afforded it I would of bought it instead of the Maximum ST. So good luck to all you T-maxx owners and I would love to see some pictures for my Readers rides page.
Here I would like to put a table of all the R/C Trucks I know of. If I miss any please E-mail me with the trucks name. I hope this well be some help to those who want an R/C Truck. I will try to keep them together but that can be very hard. I will put nitro and electric versions together. I also am only putting trucks you can still buy and not the really old one's.
I have been working on a electric boat and I love making things and this brings back one reason I love this hobby of R/C there's wrenching involved. Now I know some of you might hate the wrench work but I love it. I have set up a plan and all of this boat to make sure it's right and works { since I've made some other not as great boats} I would love to scan the plan and I may do that soon. It just shows how creative you can be and how I love to build things from scratch. I am not going to make it R/C at first, I'm just going to make it go with a 4 cell battery and motor and I'm trying to make it so If it works OK I can later convert it to R/C. With of course either an ESC or MSC { mechanical speed control} I also plan to have a hold receiver that barely gets 25 feet of reception and last but not least a servo for a rudder { the second hardest part other than the way I make it go { a drive shaft and gears and a propeller}. I will also use a futaba radio and my pop-pop's creek. Now when I'm done I could get some pictures if you want but I warn you it will not be a pretty aerodynamic jet boat. It will actually be made out of a piece of 2x4.
I think I decided not to finish this boat because I think there will be things that I have troubles with and I don't want to mess with it for a while at least.
I ran my truck yesterday with a friend of my dads and it was fun for me. He had some problems with his steering but we still got to do some running. We ran at my church and some people where there for some thing and they all told me that I should do this more often. I hope that we can. I had cones set up and all. One thing I don't like about running on the church parking lot is that kids come by all the time and they always say things like: "Why aren't you going faster" "can I drive" "my friends is faster" "how fast does it go" "how much does it cost" than they get in the way and you cant keep focused. Well I just wanted to share my small racing experience. By the way his NXT was faster than my maximum ST by about 5+mph.
